God’s Rainbow Answer(Genesis 9:12-16)
(창 9:12) 하나님이 이르시되 내가 나와 너희와 및 너희와 함께 하는 모든 생물 사이에 대대로 영원히 세우는 언약의 증거는 이것이니라//And God said, This {is} the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that {is} with you, for perpetual generations:
(창 9:13) 내가 내 무지개를 구름 속에 두었나니 이것이 나와 세상 사이의 언약의 증거니라//I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
(창 9:14) 내가 구름으로 땅을 덮을 때에 무지개가 구름 속에 나타나면//And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
(창 9:15) 내가 나와 너희와 및 육체를 가진 모든 생물 사이의 내 언약을 기억하리니 다시는 물이 모든 육체를 멸하는 홍수가 되지 아니할지라//And I will remember my covenant, which {is} between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
(창 9:16) 무지개가 구름 사이에 있으리니 내가 보고 나 하나님과 모든 육체를 가진 땅의 모든 생물 사이의 영원한 언약을 기억하리라//And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that {is} upon the earth.

Owen was on holiday abroad when he received a disturbing message from a colleague: “The boss is looking to replace you.” Deeply upset, he prayed one morning at dawn and asked God, “Where are You?” Then he went to the window to open the curtains — and spotted a huge, beautiful rainbow suspended above the lake outside. Immediately a comforting warmth gushed over him. “It was as if God was simply telling me, ‘It’s okay; I’m here,’ ” he recounted later.
오언은 해외에서 휴가를 보내던 중 동료로부터 불안한 메시지를 받았다. “사장이 당신을 대체하려고 합니다.” 그는 깊이 낙심한 채 새벽에 기도하며 하나님께 “주님, 어디 계십니까?”라고 물었다. 그런 다음 창가로 가서 커튼을 열었는데, 호수 위에 걸려 있는 크고 아름다운 무지개를 보게 되었다. 그 순간 위로의 따뜻함이 그를 감싸 안았다. 그는 나중에 이렇게 회상했다. “마치 하나님께서 ‘괜찮다, 내가 여기 있다’고 말씀하시는 것 같았다.”
In Genesis 9, God promised not to destroy the earth through a flood again. He promised, “Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth” (v. 16). This covenant was everlasting and unconditional. It depended totally on God’s protection and provision, not on humanity’s performance. And it was just the first of many promises God would make to His people. Jesus, too, said, “Surely I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).
창세기 9장에서 하나님께서는 다시는 홍수로 땅을 멸하지 않겠다고 약속하셨다. 하나님께서는 “무지개가 구름 사이에 있으리니 내가 보고 나 하나님과 땅에 있는 모든 생물 사이의 영원한 언약을 기억하리라”(16절)라고 말씀하셨다. 이 언약은 영원하고 무조건적인 언약이었다. 그것은 인간의 행위가 아니라, 전적으로 하나님의 보호와 공급에 달려 있었다. 그리고 이것은 하나님께서 자기 백성에게 하실 많은 약속들 가운데 첫 번째였다. 예수님께서도 “볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라”(마태복음 28:20)라고 말씀하셨다.
God doesn’t promise that we won’t suffer. But He does promise His ever-present comfort and personal presence. We may not get “rainbow answers,” but we have His assurance that no matter what happens to us in life, He’s always there for us, and we can draw on His strength, comfort, and presence. Leslie Koh
하나님께서는 우리가 고난을 겪지 않게 해 주시겠다고 약속하지 않으신다. 그러나 언제나 함께하시는 위로와 인격적인 임재는 약속하신다. 우리가 항상 ‘무지개 같은 응답’을 받지는 못할지라도, 삶에서 어떤 일이 일어나든 하나님께서 늘 우리와 함께 계시며, 우리는 그분의 힘과 위로, 그리고 임재를 의지할 수 있다는 확신을 가지고 있다.

Loving Father, thank You for Your presence, and please help me to remember Your promise to be with me always.//사랑의 아버지 하나님, 주님의 임재에 감사드리며, 언제나 저와 함께하시겠다는 주님의 약속을 기억하게 하여 주소서. 굳이 무지개를 보지 않더라도 성경에서 약속하신 말씀들이 필요적절하게 생각나게 하소서.
