BELLE’S BELIEF(JOHN 3:1-6, 9, 14-16, 36)
(요 3:1) 그런데 바리새인 중에 니고데모라 하는 사람이 있으니 유대인의 지도자라//There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
(요 3:2) 그가 밤에 예수께 와서 이르되 랍비여 우리가 당신은 하나님께로부터 오신 선생인 줄 아나이다 하나님이 함께 하시지 아니하시면 당신이 행하시는 이 표적을 아무도 할 수 없음이니이다//The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
(요 3:3) 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 사람이 거듭나지 아니하면 하나님의 나라를 볼 수 없느니라//Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
(요 3:4) 니고데모가 이르되 사람이 늙으면 어떻게 날 수 있사옵나이까 두 번째 모태에 들어갔다가 날 수 있사옵나이까//Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
(요 3:5) 예수께서 대답하시되 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 사람이 물과 성령으로 나지 아니하면 하나님의 나라에 들어갈 수 없느니라//Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and {of} the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
(요 3:6) 육으로 난 것은 육이요 영으로 난 것은 영이니//That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
(요 3:9) 니고데모가 대답하여 이르되 어찌 그러한 일이 있을 수 있나이까//Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
(요 3:14) 모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것 같이 인자도 들려야 하리니//And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
(요 3:15) 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라//That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
(요 3:16) 하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이라//For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(요 3:36) 아들을 믿는 자에게는 영생이 있고 아들에게 순종하지 아니하는 자는 영생을 보지 못하고 도리어 하나님의 진노가 그 위에 머물러 있느니라//He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
(요절: 요한복음 3:36) 아들을 믿는 자에게는 영생이 있고 아들에게 순종하지 아니하는 자는 영생을 보지 못하고//Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life. [JOHN 3:36]
Belle wanted nothing to do with her parents’ faith in Jesus. In college, she proclaimed herself an agnostic and sought to live without God. But a breakup with her boyfriend and growing depression sent her on a downward spiral. She thought of ending her life.
벨은 예수님을 믿는 부모님의 믿음을 가져볼 생각이 없었다. 그는 대학 시절 자신을 불가지론자라고 선언하고, 하나님 없는 삶을 살기로 했다. 하지만 남자친구와 헤어지고 우울증이 심해지면서 벨은 점점 깊은 절망에 빠져 죽으려는 생각까지 했다.
In those depths of despair, she thought of her parents’ joy in Christ and, despite her struggles, eventually trusted Jesus as Savior. Later, she heard a man speak about a people group in China who’d never heard the gospel. She wanted to go there to tell them, but some people discouraged her because of the danger. She went anyway. Together with a young man she met in college and whom she later married, Belle spent the rest of her life taking the gospel to people in China and Thailand. Thousands of people trusted Jesus, and the legacy of this woman, Isobel Kuhn, lives on in those lands.
그런 절망 가운데 벨은 자기의 부모가 그리스도 안에서 누리는 기쁨에 대해 생각해 보게 되었고, 힘겨운 가운데서도 마침내 예수님을 구주로 영접했다. 그 후 벨은 한 남자가 복음을 한 번도 들어본 적이 없는 중국의 어느 민족에 대해 이야기하는 것을 들었다. 그곳에 복음을 전하러 가고 싶어 하는 벨을 사람들은 위험하다고 말렸지만, 그럼에도 갔다. 대학에서 만난 한 청년과 함께 간 벨은 나중에 그와 결혼하고 평생을 중국과 태국의 사람들에게 복음을 전하며 살았다. 수천 명의 사람들이 예수님을 믿게 되었고, 이소벨 쿤이라는 이름의 이 여인의 유업은 그 땅에 계속 이어지고 있다.
Who gave a young woman a new life and hope and walked with her as she dealt with difficult life challenges? Jesus.
누가 삶의 절망 가운데 있던 이 젊은 여인에게 새 생명과 소망을 주고 함께 동행해 주었는가? 예수님이다.
Are you wondering what life is about? Perhaps questioning your existence? Turn to Christ - “God’s one and only son” (JOHN 3:18) who died for you (ROMANS 5:8). He loves you enough to provide life that lasts forever (JOHN 3:16). Yes, “whoever believes in (Jesus) the Son has eternal life” (3:36). Dear Jesus, thank You for the purpose and plans You have for me!//사랑하는 예수님, 저를 향한 목적과 계획을 갖고 계심을 감사합니다. 그것을 발견할 수 있는 은혜를 주신 것을 감사합니다. 오직 하나님의 은혜로 지금 내가 여기 주님 앞에 있사오니 내가 주님의 도구로 사용되게 하소서.
