2026-02-20(금) 예수님을 위해 사는 삶(데살로니가전서 5:12-23)
LIVING FOR JESUS(1 THESSALONIANS 5:12-23)
(살전 5:12) 형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하노니 너희 가운데서 수고하고 주 안에서 너희를 다스리며 권하는 자들을 너희가 알고//And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
(살전 5:13) 그들의 역사로 말미암아 사랑 안에서 가장 귀히 여기며 너희끼리 화목하라//And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. {And} be at peace among yourselves.
(살전 5:14) 또 형제들아 너희를 권면하노니 게으른 자들을 권계하며 마음이 약한 자들을 격려하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주며 모든 사람에게 오래 참으라//Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all {men}.
(살전 5:15) 삼가 누가 누구에게든지 악으로 악을 갚지 말게 하고 서로 대하든지 모든 사람을 대하든지 항상 선을 따르라//See that none render evil for evil unto any {man}; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all {men}.
(살전 5:16) 항상 기뻐하라//Rejoice evermore.
(살전 5:17) 쉬지 말고 기도하라//Pray without ceasing.
(살전 5:18) 범사에 감사하라 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라//In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
(살전 5:19) 성령을 소멸하지 말며//Quench not the Spirit.
(살전 5:20) 예언을 멸시하지 말고//Despise not prophesyings.
(살전 5:21) 범사에 헤아려 좋은 것을 취하고//Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
(살전 5:22) 악은 어떤 모양이라도 버리라//Abstain from all appearance of evil.
(살전 5:23) 평강의 하나님이 친히 너희를 온전히 거룩하게 하시고 또 너희의 온 영과 혼과 몸이 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 강림하실 때에 흠 없게 보전되기를 원하노라//And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and {I pray God} your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In 2023, Kenyan police intervened to end what’s being called the “Shakahola Massacre” - in which hundreds died after following a cult leader’s directions to starve themselves to meet Jesus. The leader had allegedly promised he too would leave earth in this way after his followers did. After his arrest, he denied ever teaching this.
2023년 케냐 경찰은 “샤카홀라 대학살”이라는 사건에 개입해 사건을 종결시켰다. 그것은 예수님을 만나려면 금식을 해야 한다는 한 사이비 교주의 지시를 따르다 수백 명이 목숨을 잃은 사건이었다. 그 교주는 신도들이 죽으면 자기도 같은 방식으로 세상을 떠나겠다고 약속했던 것으로 알려졌지만, 체포된 후에는 이렇게 가르친 적이 없다고 부인했다.
The tragedy is a troubling example of how dangerous it is to blindly trust those claiming to be spiritual leaders. Cult members were so deceived that they resisted those who came to save them from starvation. One survivor described getting “addicted” to the leader’s teachings.
이런 비극은 자칭 영적 지도자라고 하는 자들을 맹목적으로 따르는 것이 얼마나 위험한지를 보여주는 가슴 아픈 사례이다. 그 사이비 종교에 들어간 사람들은 철저히 세뇌되어 굶어 죽게 된 그들을 구하러 온 사람들까지도 거부했다. 한 생존자는 그 지도자의 가르침에 “중독”되었다고 말했다.
Jesus Christ is the true leader of those who trust in Him. He loved us so much He was willing to die for us to have life (1 THESSALONIANS 5:10). He calls us to live for Him, “awake and sober” (V. 6) and to test any teaching of others against His teaching (VV. 20-22).
예수 그리스도는 그를 믿는 사람들의 진정한 지도자이시다. 예수님은 우리에게 생명을 주시기 위해 기꺼이 돌아가시기까지 우리를 사랑하셨다(데살로니가전서 5:10). 예수님은 우리에게 예수님을 위해 살면서 “깨어 정신을 차리고”(6절), 다른 사람들의 가르침을 예수님의 가르침과 비교해 잘 살펴보라고 하신다(20-22절).
We respond to Christ’s love not by harming ourselves or others but by “encourag(ing) … and build(ing) each other up” (V. 11). By living “in peace with each other” (V. 13) and striving “to do what is good for each other and for everyone else” (V. 15). Through daily reliance on and trust in Christ’s Spirit (V. 19), we can live a life of love as we eagerly await Christ’s coming (V. 23). MONICA LA ROSE
예수님의 사랑을 받은 우리는 자신이나 타인을 해치지 않고 “피차 권면하고 덕을 세운다”(11절). 그리고 “서로 화목하며”(13절), “서로 대하든지 모든 사람을 대하든지 항상 선을 따르며” 사는 것이다(15절). 우리는 날마다 성령을 의지하고 신뢰하며(19절) 예수님의 다시 오심을 간절히 기다리며 사랑의 삶을 살아갈 수 있다(23절).

Loving God, please help me never replace Jesus in my heart with any other leader and help me live for You.//사랑의 하나님, 제 마음속 예수님을 다른 어떤 지도자와도 바꾸지 않게 하시고, 오직 하나님을 위해 살도록 도와주소서. 성령님이 나를 지배하셔서 예수 그리스도의 마음을 알게 하시고 동일한 마음으로 세상과 사람들을 바라보게 하소서.
