GOD’S GREAT POWER(ACTS 1:1-9)
(행 1:1) 데오빌로여 내가 먼저 쓴 글에는 무릇 예수께서 행하시며 가르치시기를 시작하심부터//The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
(행 1:2) 그가 택하신 사도들에게 성령으로 명하시고 승천하신 날까지의 일을 기록하였노라//Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
(행 1:3) 그가 고난 받으신 후에 또한 그들에게 확실한 많은 증거로 친히 살아 계심을 나타내사 사십 일 동안 그들에게 보이시며 하나님 나라의 일을 말씀하시니라//To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
(행 1:4) 사도와 함께 모이사 그들에게 분부하여 이르시되 예루살렘을 떠나지 말고 내게서 들은 바 아버지께서 약속하신 것을 기다리라//And, being assembled together with {them}, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, {saith he}, ye have heard of me.
(행 1:5) 요한은 물로 세례를 베풀었으나 너희는 몇 날이 못되어 성령으로 세례를 받으리라 하셨느니라//For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
(행 1:6) 그들이 모였을 때에 예수께 여쭈어 이르되 주께서 이스라엘 나라를 회복하심이 이 때니이까 하니//When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
(행 1:7) 이르시되 때와 시기는 아버지께서 자기의 권한에 두셨으니 너희가 알 바 아니요//And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
(행 1:8) 오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라 하시니라//But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
(행 1:9) 이 말씀을 마치시고 그들이 보는데 올려져 가시니 구름이 그를 가리어 보이지 않게 하더라//And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
(요절: 사도행전 1:8) 오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고… 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라//You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses . . . to the ends of the earth. [ACTS 1:8]
Our city fell almost dark after a massive ice storm took down miles of power lines, leaving many of our friends without electricity to heat their homes in the dead of a frigid winter. Families longed to see repair trucks in their neighborhoods working to restore power. Later, I learned that a church parking lot served as a temporary command center for the vehicles being sent out to assist those in need.
내가 사는 도시에 거대한 얼음폭풍이 몰려와 수 마일에 걸쳐 정전이 되자, 도시가 암흑 같았고 많은 사람들이 한파에 난방도 할 수 없게 되었다. 많은 가정들이 복구 트럭이 자기 동네에 와서 전력을 복구시켜 주기를 간절히 기다렸다. 나중에 나는 도움이 필요한 이들을 위해 파견된 차량들을 위해 한 교회 주차장이 임시 지휘 본부로 사용되었음을 알게 되었다.
Hearing about the repair trucks brought to mind Jesus’ command to His disciples in the book of Acts. For forty days after His resurrection, Christ appeared to His disciples to encourage and teach them about the kingdom of God (ACTS 1:3). Before Jesus’ return to heaven, He gave them one last promise: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” (V. 8).
복구 트럭에 대한 이야기를 들으면서 사도행전에서 예수님이 제자들에게 하신 명령이 떠올랐다. 예수님은 부활 후 40일 동안 제자들에게 나타나 그들을 격려하시고 하나님 나라에 대해 가르치셨다(사도행전 1:3). 예수님은 하늘로 올라가시기 전 제자들에게 마지막 약속을 하셨다. “오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받으리라”(8절).
Christ promised that God’s incomparably great power would be available to the disciples through His Spirit. But the purpose of having power wasn’t to keep it to themselves. Instead, the disciples let God empower them in the mission of telling others how to experience once more the connection to God’s power and love that was broken by sin.
예수님은 하나님의 비교할 수 없이 위대한 능력이 성령을 통해 제자들에게 임할 것이라고 약속하셨다. 하지만 그 능력을 입는 목적은 자신들이 그냥 간직하기 위한 것이 아니었다. 그 대신 제자들은 하나님이 주시는 능력으로 죄로 인해 단절된 하나님의 능력과 사랑에 다시 연결되는 방법을 다른 사람들에게 전하는 사명을 감당했다.
As we go out into our communities, we have the same power and calling. Empowered by God’s Spirit, we can care for those who are suffering and share how they too can have access to God’s power. LISA M. SAMRA
우리가 공동체로 나아갈 때 우리에게는 동일한 능력과 부르심이 있다. 우리는 성령의 능력에 힘입어 고통 중에 있는 자들을 돌보고, 그들 또한 어떻게 하나님의 능력을 얻을 수 있는지 전해줄 수 있다.
