2025-05-25(일) 새롭게 찾은 소망(데살로니가전서 5:4-15)
HOPE RENEWED(1 THESSALONIANS 5:4-15)
(살전 5:4) 형제들아 너희는 어둠에 있지 아니하매 그 날이 도둑 같이 너희에게 임하지 못하리니//But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
(살전 5:5) 너희는 다 빛의 아들이요 낮의 아들이라 우리가 밤이나 어둠에 속하지 아니하나니//Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
(살전 5:6) 그러므로 우리는 다른 이들과 같이 자지 말고 오직 깨어 정신을 차릴지라//Therefore let us not sleep, as {do} others; but let us watch and be sober.
(살전 5:7) 자는 자들은 밤에 자고 취하는 자들은 밤에 취하되//For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
(살전 5:8) 우리는 낮에 속하였으니 정신을 차리고 믿음과 사랑의 호심경을 붙이고 구원의 소망의 투구를 쓰자//But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
(살전 5:9) 하나님이 우리를 세우심은 노하심에 이르게 하심이 아니요 오직 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 구원을 받게 하심이라//For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
(살전 5:10) 예수께서 우리를 위하여 죽으사 우리로 하여금 깨어 있든지 자든지 자기와 함께 살게 하려 하셨느니라//Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
(살전 5:11) 그러므로 피차 권면하고 서로 덕을 세우기를 너희가 하는 것 같이 하라//Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
(살전 5:12) 형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하노니 너희 가운데서 수고하고 주 안에서 너희를 다스리며 권하는 자들을 너희가 알고//And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
(살전 5:13) 그들의 역사로 말미암아 사랑 안에서 가장 귀히 여기며 너희끼리 화목하라//And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. {And} be at peace among yourselves.
(살전 5:14) 또 형제들아 너희를 권면하노니 게으른 자들을 권계하며 마음이 약한 자들을 격려하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주며 모든 사람에게 오래 참으라//Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all {men}.
(살전 5:15) 삼가 누가 누구에게든지 악으로 악을 갚지 말게 하고 서로 대하든지 모든 사람을 대하든지 항상 선을 따르라//See that none render evil for evil unto any {man}; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all {men}.
(요절: 데살로니가전서 5:14) 마음이 약한 자들을 격려하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주며 모든 사람에게 오래 참으라//Encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. [1 THESSALONIANS 5:14]
Thia was puzzled. Why was his eighteen-year-old son spending so much time in the library these days? His son, who was autistic and rarely spoke to anyone, would usually return straight home after class. What changed? When pressed, his son finally replied: “Studying with Navin.”
티아는 열 여덟 살인 아들이 요즘 도서관에서 왜 이렇게 오랜 시간을 보내는지 궁금했다. 자폐인 아들은 말수가 적었으며 학교가 끝나면 대개 집으로 곧장 왔기 때문이다. 무엇이 달라진 걸까? 아들을 재촉하자 마침내 이런 대답이 돌아왔다. “나빈과 같이 공부하고 있어요.”
Navin, it turned out, was a classmate who noticed that Thia’s son was struggling in class and invited him to study together. This budding friendship - the first in eighteen years - greatly encouraged the disheartened father who’d given up hope of his son ever having a friend.
알고 보니 나빈은 자기 아들이 공부에 어려움을 겪고 있음을 알고 함께 공부하자고 초청한 같은 반 친구였다. 18년 만에 처음으로 맺은 이 우정은 아들이 친구를 사귀는 희망을 포기했던 절망적인 아버지에게 큰 힘이 되었다.
Hope was renewed because one person cared enough to come alongside another who needed help. In Paul’s ministry to the early church, he knew this also applied to our hope of salvation. For believers in Jesus to “be awake and sober” (1 THESSALONIANS 5:6), living in the hope of His return, they had to help one another (V. 11), especially those who were struggling.
한 사람이 도움이 필요한 다른 사람을 돌보며 함께 있어 주었기에 소망이 새롭게 피어났다. 바울은 초대 교회에서의 사역을 통해 이것이 우리의 구원의 소망에도 적용된다는 것을 알았다. 예수님을 믿는 신자들이 주님의 재림을 기다리며 “오직 깨어 정신을 차리고”(데살로니가전서 5:6) 있기 위해서는 서로가 서로를 도와주어야 한다(11절). 특히 어려움을 겪고 있는 사람들에게 더 그렇게 해야 한다.
That’s why even though these believers led lives of love that pleased God (4:1, 10), Paul reminded them to “encourage the disheartened, help the weak” (5:14). When we notice believers in Christ who are fearful, anxious, or despondent, and we come alongside them - whether to listen, offer a kind word, or sit quietly together - God can use us to give them the strength and courage to hold on to their hope in Jesus. 바울은 그래서 신자들이 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 사랑의 삶을 살았음에도 불구하고(4:1, 10) 그들에게 “마음이 약한 자들을 격려하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주라”(5:14)고 상기시켰다. 우리가 두려움과 불안, 낙심에 빠져 있는 그리스도인들을 알아보고, 그들 곁에 머무르며 귀 기울이고 따뜻한 말을 건네고 잠잠히 함께 있어줄 때, 하나님은 우리를 사용하여 그들이 예수님 안에서 소망을 붙들 수 있도록 그들에게 힘과 용기를 주실 수 있다.

Dear God, please help me to care for the disheartened and the weak so that their hope in Jesus may be renewed.//사랑하는 하나님, 마음이 상하고 약한 사람들을 돌보게 하셔서 그들이 예수님 안에서 소망을 다시 찾을 수 있게 해주소서. 주님의 사랑과 평화를 전하는 도구로 나를 사용하소서. 주님의 사랑을 전할 수 있는 사람을 만나게 하소서. 삶 가운데서 만나는 사람이 바로 주님이 보내주신 사람임을 알아보게 하소서.
