GOD’S ETERNALLY BELOVED(JEREMIAH 31:1-4, 7-9)
(렘 31:1) 여호와의 말씀이니라 그 때에 내가 이스라엘 모든 종족의 하나님이 되고 그들은 내 백성이 되리라//At the same time, saith the Lord, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.
(렘 31:2) 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시니라 칼에서 벗어난 백성이 광야에서 은혜를 입었나니 곧 내가 이스라엘로 안식을 얻게 하러 갈 때에라//Thus saith the Lord, The people {which were} left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; {even} Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
(렘 31:3) 옛적에 여호와께서 나에게 나타나사 내가 영원한 사랑으로 너를 사랑하기에 인자함으로 너를 이끌었다 하였노라//The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, {saying}, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
(렘 31:4) 처녀 이스라엘아 내가 다시 너를 세우리니 네가 세움을 입을 것이요 네가 다시 소고를 들고 즐거워하는 자들과 함께 춤추며 나오리라//Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
(렘 31:7) 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 너희는 여러 민족의 앞에 서서 야곱을 위하여 기뻐 외치라 너희는 전파하며 찬양하며 말하라 여호와여 주의 백성 이스라엘의 남은 자를 구원하소서 하라//For thus saith the Lord; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.
(렘 31:8) 보라 나는 그들을 북쪽 땅에서 인도하며 땅 끝에서부터 모으리라 그들 중에는 맹인과 다리 저는 사람과 잉태한 여인과 해산하는 여인이 함께 있으며 큰 무리를 이루어 이 곳으로 돌아오리라//Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, {and} with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.
(렘 31:9) 그들이 울며 돌아오리니 나의 인도함을 받고 간구할 때에 내가 그들을 넘어지지 아니하고 물 있는 계곡의 곧은 길로 가게 하리라 나는 이스라엘의 아버지요 에브라임은 나의 장자니라//They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim {is} my firstborn.

One of the most dramatic and mysterious love letters of all time was penned by composer Ludwig van Beethoven and was only discovered after his death in 1827. The hastily handwritten letter is full of passionate lines like, “My eternally beloved … I can only live either wholly with you or not at all.” Tragically, it appears the letter was never sent, and his intended recipient remains unknown.
역사상 가장 멋지고 신비로운 연애편지 중 하나는 작곡가 루드비히 반 베토벤이 쓴 것으로, 1827년 그가 세상을 떠난 후에야 발견되었다. 급하게 손으로 쓴 이 편지에는 “나의 영원한 사랑… 나에게는 오직 당신뿐, 당신 없이는 살 수 없어요.”와 같이 그의 뜨거운 사랑을 담은 문장이 가득하다. 안타깝게도 그 편지는 발송되지 않았고, 누구에게 쓴 것인지 아직도 알려지지 않았다.
Beethoven’s letter is treasured by readers who can identify with his desperate yearning for love. We seek love and fulfillment in many people, things, and experiences that cannot fully satisfy. But far greater than a fleeting romance is the love of God for His covenant people, to whom He showed great love for the sake of all people. Through the prophet Jeremiah, God declared, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (JEREMIAH 31:3). Because of His great love, God promised a future of rest and favor (V. 2) and the restoration of anything that was broken (V. 4). Despite their repeated rejection and rebellion, God vowed to bring them back to Himself (V. 9).

Many years later, that same everlasting love motivated Jesus to endure death for sinners, even before we ever returned His love (ROMANS 5:8). We don’t have to search for love or try to earn it. We’re already loved with an everlasting love! KAREN PIMPO
