2026-02-04(수) 하늘에 쌓아 둔 보물(디모데전서 6:6-12, 17-19)
Treasure Stored in Heaven(1 Timothy 6:6-12, 17-19)
(딤전 6:6) 그러나 자족하는 마음이 있으면 경건은 큰 이익이 되느니라//But godliness with contentment is great gain.
(딤전 6:7) 우리가 세상에 아무 것도 가지고 온 것이 없으매 또한 아무 것도 가지고 가지 못하리니//For we brought nothing into {this} world, {and it is} certain we can carry nothing out.
(딤전 6:8) 우리가 먹을 것과 입을 것이 있은즉 족한 줄로 알 것이니라//And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
(딤전 6:9) 부하려 하는 자들은 시험과 올무와 여러 가지 어리석고 해로운 욕심에 떨어지나니 곧 사람으로 파멸과 멸망에 빠지게 하는 것이라//But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and {into} many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
(딤전 6:10) 돈을 사랑함이 일만 악의 뿌리가 되나니 이것을 탐내는 자들은 미혹을 받아 믿음에서 떠나 많은 근심으로써 자기를 찔렀도다//For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
(딤전 6:11) 오직 너 하나님의 사람아 이것들을 피하고 의와 경건과 믿음과 사랑과 인내와 온유를 따르며//But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
(딤전 6:12) 믿음의 선한 싸움을 싸우라 영생을 취하라 이를 위하여 네가 부르심을 받았고 많은 증인 앞에서 선한 증언을 하였도다//Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
(딤전 6:17) 네가 이 세대에서 부한 자들을 명하여 마음을 높이지 말고 정함이 없는 재물에 소망을 두지 말고 오직 우리에게 모든 것을 후히 주사 누리게 하시는 하나님께 두며//Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
(딤전 6:18) 선을 행하고 선한 사업을 많이 하고 나누어 주기를 좋아하며 너그러운 자가 되게 하라//That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
(딤전 6:19) 이것이 장래에 자기를 위하여 좋은 터를 쌓아 참된 생명을 취하는 것이니라//Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

It’s common for those who are traveling overseas for the first time to pack a lot of stuff. The fear is being so far from home and needing something. But a recent article speaks of the problems of overpacking. It advises leaving behind shampoo and hair dryers (which most hotels have) and not bringing extra shoes and books, which are bulky and heavy. The writer notes that when you wind up lugging heavy luggage over Europe’s cobblestone streets, you’ll wish you didn’t bring so much with you.
해외여행을 처음 하는 사람들은 많은 짐을 싸는 경우가 흔하다. 집에서 멀리 떨어져 있다가 무엇인가가 필요해질까 봐 두려워하기 때문이다. 그러나 최근 한 글은 과도한 짐 꾸리기의 문제점을 이야기한다. 대부분의 호텔에 구비되어 있는 샴푸와 헤어드라이어는 가져가지 말고, 부피가 크고 무거운 여분의 신발과 책도 가져오지 말라고 조언한다. 글쓴이는 유럽의 자갈길을 무거운 여행가방을 끌고 다니게 되면, 그렇게 많은 짐을 가져오지 않았더라면 하고 후회하게 될 것이라고 지적한다.
In a way, it’s an apt metaphor for the travel advice the apostle Paul provides: “We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it” (1 Timothy 6:7). He ties this to the problem of possessing too much: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation,” and he warns that extra baggage is “a trap” leading to “ruin and destruction” (v. 9). People of faith have a different travel destination where all that’s needed is provided by God — “everything for our enjoyment” (v. 17).
어떤 면에서 이것은 사도 바울이 주는 여행 조언에 잘 어울리는 비유다. “우리가 세상에 아무것도 가지고 온 것이 없으매 또한 아무것도 가지고 가지 못하리라”(디모데전서 6:7). 그는 이것을 지나치게 소유하려는 문제와 연결한다. “부하려 하는 자들은 시험과 올무에 빠지나니,” 그리고 그는 그러한 여분의 짐이 “올무”가 되어 “파멸과 멸망”에 이르게 한다고 경고한다(9절). 믿음의 사람들에게는 하나님께서 “우리의 누림을 위하여 모든 것을 후히 주시는”(17절) 곳, 곧 필요한 모든 것이 하나님께서 공급하시는 다른 여행 목적지가 있다.
It might be good for us today to remember that what we accumulate in life is meaningless. We can’t take it with us. By being “generous and willing to share” (v. 18), Paul says we “lay up treasure . . . for the coming age.” This is the best travel tip of all, the secret to “life that is truly life” (v. 19). 오늘 우리는 인생에서 우리가 모으는 것들이 무의미하다는 사실을 기억하는 것이 좋다. 우리는 그것을 가지고 갈 수 없다. 바울은 “후히 베풀며 나누기를 좋아함으로써”(18절) 우리가 “장래를 위하여 보물을 쌓는다”고 말한다. 이것이야말로 최고의 여행 조언이며, “참된 생명”(19절)의 비밀이다.
