2026-02-02(월) 겸손하게 예수님을 따르기(마태복음 18:1-4)
Following Jesus in Humility(Matthew 18:1-4)
(마 18:1) 그 때에 제자들이 예수께 나아와 이르되 천국에서는 누가 크니이까//At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
(마 18:2) 예수께서 한 어린 아이를 불러 그들 가운데 세우시고//And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
(마 18:3) 이르시되 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희가 돌이켜 어린 아이들과 같이 되지 아니하면 결단코 천국에 들어가지 못하리라//And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
(마 18:4) 그러므로 누구든지 이 어린 아이와 같이 자기를 낮추는 사람이 천국에서 큰 자니라//Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
(요절: 마태복음 18:3) 너희가 돌이켜 어린 아이들과 같이 되지 아니하면 결단코 천국에 들어가지 못하리라//Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.[Matthew 18:3]
Near our home is a famous garden where we often take walks with a young boy our family cares for. His favorite area is the Children’s Garden, which has a small door large enough for him to run through but small enough to force me to crouch. He laughs as I drop to my knees and wiggle through the small opening to chase him.
우리 집 근처에는 우리가 돌보고 있는 어린 남자아이와 함께 자주 산책하러 가는 유명한 정원이 있다. 그 아이가 가장 좋아하는 곳은 어린이 정원인데, 그곳에는 아이가 뛰어들어갈 수 있을 만큼 크지만 내가 지나가려면 몸을 웅크려야 할 만큼 작은 문이 있다. 나는 무릎을 꿇고 몸을 꿈틀거리며 그 작은 입구를 통과해 아이를 쫓아가고, 그는 그 모습을 보며 웃는다.
The small garden gate reminds me of Jesus’ object lesson in Matthew 18, where He calls a little child to His side to explain the type of person who will enter the kingdom of heaven (v. 2). It was a bold example, for in Christ’s day to be a child was to be inconsequential and overlooked. Unlike today, their opinions and desires didn’t matter. Jesus uses this description to highlight our human tendency to be noticed and seek power and influence.
작은 정원 문은 마태복음 18장에서 예수님께서 하늘나라에 들어갈 사람의 모습을 설명하시기 위해 한 어린아이를 곁으로 부르신 비유를 떠올리게 한다(2절). 이는 대담한 예였다. 그리스도의 시대에 어린아이라는 것은 하찮고 주목받지 못하는 존재였기 때문이다. 오늘날과 달리 그들의 의견과 바람은 중요하게 여겨지지 않았다. 예수님께서는 이러한 묘사를 사용하여, 인정받고 권력과 영향력을 추구하려는 인간의 경향을 드러내신다.
Of course, Jesus wasn’t asking His disciples to become children again but rather pointing to the traits that mark those who serve him. The biggest marker is humility — the person who “takes the lowly position” (v. 4) and serves others.
물론 예수님께서는 제자들에게 다시 어린아이가 되라고 요구하신 것이 아니라, 그분을 섬기는 자들에게 나타나는 성품을 가리키신 것이다. 그중 가장 두드러진 표지는 겸손으로, “자기를 낮추는 자”(4절)가 되어 다른 사람들을 섬기는 것이다.
The small garden door is a reminder that humility doesn’t come naturally to us. Believers in Jesus, however, are to be this way. We’re to follow our Savior, who modeled this way of living by making “himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant” (Philippians 2:7). Matt Lucas.
작은 정원 문은 겸손이 우리에게 자연스럽게 생기는 것이 아님을 상기시켜 준다. 그러나 예수님을 믿는 사람들은 이렇게 살아가야 한다. 우리는 “종의 형체를 가지사 자기를 비워”(빌립보서 2:7) 이러한 삶의 방식을 몸소 보여 주신 우리의 구주를 따라야 한다.

Dear Father, please forgive me for my pride and self-interest. Help me to be a little child who runs to You.//사랑의 아버지, 저의 교만과 이기심을 용서해 주소서. 주님께로 달려가는 어린아이와 같은 사람이 되도록 저를 도와주소서. 다른 사람과의 관계에서 이익을 따지고 뭔가 꿍꿍이를 두고 사람의 의도를 캐녀려는 자가 되지 않게 하소서. 순수하게 어린아이와 같은 마음으로 겸손하게 그들을 대하게 하소서. 그러나 한편으로 뱀같은 지혜도 허락하사 속이려는 자에게 속아 넘어가지는 않게 하소서.
