억제의 기적 2008-03-04(화) The Miracle Of Restraint
본문 : 누가복음 4:1-13(Luke 4:1-13)
(눅 4:1) 예수께서 성령의 충만함을 입어 요단 강에서 돌아오사 광야에서 사십 일 동안 성령에게 이끌리시며//And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
(눅 4:2) 마귀에게 시험을 받으시더라 이 모든 날에 아무 것도 잡수시지 아니하시니 날 수가 다하매 주리신지라//Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
(눅 4:3) 마귀가 이르되 네가 만일 하나님의 아들이어든 이 돌들에게 명하여 떡이 되게 하라//And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
(눅 4:4) 예수께서 대답하시되 기록된 바 사람이 떡으로만 살 것이 아니라 하였느니라//And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
(눅 4:5) 마귀가 또 예수를 이끌고 올라가서 순식간에 천하 만국을 보이며//And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
(눅 4:6) 이르되 이 모든 권위와 그 영광을 내가 네게 주리라 이것은 내게 넘겨 준 것이므로 내가 원하는 자에게 주노라//And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
(눅 4:7) 그러므로 네가 만일 내게 절하면 다 네 것이 되리라//If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
(눅 4:8) 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 기록된 바 주 너의 하나님께 경배하고 다만 그를 섬기라 하였느니라//And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
(눅 4:9) 또 이끌고 예루살렘으로 가서 성전 꼭대기에 세우고 이르되 네가 만일 하나님의 아들이어든 여기서 뛰어내리라//And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
(눅 4:10) 기록되었으되 하나님이 너를 위하여 그 사자들을 명하사 너를 지키게 하시리라 하였고//For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
(눅 4:11) 또한 그들이 손으로 너를 받들어 네 발이 돌에 부딪치지 않게 하시리라 하였느니라//And in {their} hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
(눅 4:12) 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 주 너의 하나님을 시험하지 말라 하였느니라//And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
(눅 4:13) 마귀가 모든 시험을 다 한 후에 얼마 동안 떠나니라//And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
(요절 : 요한일서 4:19) 우리가 사랑함은 그가 먼저 우리를 사랑하셨음이라//We love Him because He first loved us.
In Dostoevsky’s novel The Brothers Karamazov, Ivan Karamazov refers to “the miracle of restraint”- God’s choice to curb His own power. The more I get to know Jesus, the more that observation impresses me.
도스토예프스키의 소설 까라마조프가의 형제들에서, 이반 까라마조프는 "억제의 기적"을 그분 자신의 능력에 재갈 물리는 하나님의 선택이라고 표현한다. 내가 예수님을 더 많이 알수록, 그러한 관찰이 나를 감동시킨다.
The miracles Satan suggested to Jesus (Luke 4:3,9-11), the signs the Pharisees demanded (Matt. 12:38; 16:1), the final proofs I yearn for offer no obstacle to an omnipotent God. More amazing is His refusal to perform, to overwhelm. God’s terrible insistence on human freedom is so absolute that He granted us the power to live as though He does not exist. Jesus must have known this as He faced the tempter in the desert, focusing His power on the energy of restraint.
전지전능하신 하나님께서는 사탄이 예수님에게 제안한 기적(누가복음 4:3,9-11)과, 바리새인들이 요구했던 표적(마태복음 12:38; 16:1) 및 내가 열망하는 최종적인 증명을 못하실 것이 전혀 없으시다. 그보다 더 놀라운 것은 그분이 그런 기적을 행하셔서 사탄을 압도하지 않으셨다는 것이다. 하나님은 인간의 자유를 너무나도 완벽하게 주장하셔서, 인간들이 마치 그분이 존재하지 않는 것으로 알고 사는 것조차 허용하셨다. 예수님은 사막에서 사탄과 맞섰을 때 이것을 분명히 아셨을 것이므로, 억제하는 에너지에 그분의 능력을 집중하셨다.
I believe God insists on such restraint because no pyrotechnic displays of omnipotence will achieve the response He desires. Only love can summon a response of love. “I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself,” Jesus said (John 12:32). He said this to show the kind of death He would die. 하나님이 전지전능하심을 화려하게 펼칠지라도 그분이 원하시는 반응을 얻을 수 없으므로, 그러한 억제를 고집하신 것으로 믿는다. 오직 사랑만이 사랑의 반응을 도출해 낼 수 있다. 예수님이 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌겠노라"(요한복음 12:32). 그분은 그분이 죽으실 종류의 죽음을 보여주시기 위해 이 말씀을 하셨다. 하나님의 성품은 자신을 주는 것이다. - Philip Yancey
Why does God content Himself with the slow, mysterious way of making righteousness grow rather than avenging it? That’s how love is. Love has its own power - the only power capable of conquering the human heart.
하나님은 왜 그런 것에 복수하지 않으시고, 이해할 수 없는 방식으로 천천히 공의가 자라게 하는 것에 만족하시는 것일까? 그것이 바로 사랑이 어떠한가를 말해주는 것이다. 사랑은 그 자체로서 능력이 있다. 그 사랑이야말로 사람의 마음을 정복할 수 있는 유일한 능력이다.
That leaden night on which He was betrayed,//그분이 배신당하시던 무기력한 밤,
The One by whom the universe was made//우주를 만드신 분이
Reclined with friends, took bread and stretched a hand//친구들에게 기대어서, 빵을 취하여
Of love to him who His demise had planned.//그분의 죽음을 계획한 그에게 사랑의 손을 내미셨네.

Revenge restrained is a victory gained.//복수를 억제하면 승리를 얻습니다. 예수님이 그에 대한 본을 보이셨습니다. 예수님의 능력으로는 가룟 유다에게 즉석에서 복수를 할 수 있었습니다. 예수님은 빤히 가룟 유다가 그분을 죽음의 자리에 내어 줄 것을 알고 계셨습니다. 그런데도 그에게 빵을 내미셨습니다. 사랑의 빵을. 측은히 여기며 동정하면서... 우리라면 어떻게 했을까요? 그가 나를 모함하기로 계획했다는 것을 알았다면, 조용히 그를 불러내어 아무 말없이 갈비를 사 주었을까요? 최대한 참는 것을 연습해야 되겠습니다. 삼세번이 아니라 언제까지든.
