본문 : 시편 12:1-8(Psalm 12:1-8)
(시 12:1) 여호와여 도우소서 경건한 자가 끊어지며 충실한 자들이 인생 중에 없어지나이다//Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
(시 12:2) 그들이 이웃에게 각기 거짓을 말함이여 아첨하는 입술과 두 마음으로 말하는도다//They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: {with} flattering lips {and} with a double heart do they speak.
(시 12:3) 여호와께서 모든 아첨하는 입술과 자랑하는 혀를 끊으시리니//The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, {and} the tongue that speaketh proud things:
(시 12:4) 그들이 말하기를 우리의 혀가 이기리라 우리 입술은 우리 것이니 우리를 주관할 자 누구리요 함이로다//Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips {are} our own: who {is} lord over us?
(시 12:5) 여호와의 말씀에 가련한 자들의 눌림과 궁핍한 자들의 탄식으로 말미암아 내가 이제 일어나 그를 그가 원하는 안전한 지대에 두리라 하시도다//For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set {him} in safety {from him that} puffeth at him.
(시 12:6) 여호와의 말씀은 순결함이여 흙 도가니에 일곱 번 단련한 은 같도다//The words of the Lord {are} pure words: {as} silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
(시 12:7) 여호와여 그들을 지키사 이 세대로부터 영원까지 보존하시리이다//Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
(시 12:8) 비열함이 인생 중에 높임을 받는 때에 악인들이 곳곳에서 날뛰는도다//The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
(요절 : 시편 12:5) 그를 그가 원하는 안전한 지대에 두리라//I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.
King David looked out at the world and was troubled. He didn’t need the Internet to paint a bleak picture of society or The New York Times to remind him of crime and suffering. Even without a cable news show to give him all the bad news, he saw the evil.
다윗 왕은 세상을 바라보고 곤란을 겪었다. 그는 굳이 인터넷이 없어도 사회의 황량한 그림을 그릴 수 있었으며, 뉴욕 타임즈가 없어도 죄와 고통을 기억할 수 있었다. 심지어 케이블 뉴스가 없어도 모든 나쁜 뉴스를 다 알 수 있었다. 그는 악을 보았다.
He looked around and saw that “the godly man ceases.” He noticed that “the faithful disappear.” In his world, everyone spoke “idly” to his neighbor “with flattering lips and a double heart” (Ps. 12:1-2).

This description may sound like the theme of a TV show, but it was life, circa 1,000 BC. While we may view society’s evils as much worse than anything before, David reminds us that evil is not a 21st-century innovation.

But David’s words also give us hope. Notice his reaction to the bad news he bore. In verse 1, he turned to God and cried, “Help!” Then he implored God with specific needs. The response he got was positive. God promised that because He rules righteously, He would provide protection and safety (vv.5-7).
