본문 : 누가복음 9:51-56(Luke 9:51-56)
(눅 9:51) 예수께서 승천하실 기약이 차가매 예루살렘을 향하여 올라가기로 굳게 결심하시고//And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
(눅 9:52) 사자들을 앞서 보내시매 그들이 가서 예수를 위하여 준비하려고 사마리아인의 한 마을에 들어갔더니//And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
(눅 9:53) 예수께서 예루살렘을 향하여 가시기 때문에 그들이 받아들이지 아니 하는지라//And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
(눅 9:54) 제자 야고보와 요한이 이를 보고 이르되 주여 우리가 불을 명하여 하늘로부터 내려 저들을 멸하라 하기를 원하시나이까//And when his disciples James and John saw {this}, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
(눅 9:55) 예수께서 돌아보시며 꾸짖으시고 이르시되 너희는 무슨 정신으로 말하는지 모르는구나 인자는 사람의 생명을 멸망시키러 온 것이 아니요 구원하러 왔노라 하시고'//But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
(눅 9:56) 함께 다른 마을로 가시니라//For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save {them}. And they went to another village.
(요절 : 로마서 12:21) 악에게 지지 말고 선으로 악을 이기라//Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Jesus was passing through Samaria on His way to Jerusalem. He sent messengers ahead to prepare a place, but the villagers rejected Him.
예수님이 예루살렘으로 가시는 길에 사마리아를 지나게 되었다. 그분은 사자들을 앞서 보내어 장소를 준비하게 하셨다. 그런데 마을 사람들이 그분을 거절했다.
When James and John heard about the refusal, they fumed, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?"(Luke 9:54). They had just been on the Mount of Transfiguration and had seen their Lord with Moses and Elijah. No doubt they recalled the story of Elijah calling down fire from heaven(1 Kings 18:36-38). But when they asked for a consuming fire, Jesus corrected them.
야고보와 요한이 그 거절 소식을 듣고 성이 나서 말했다. "주여 우리가 불을 명하여 하늘로부터 내려 저들을 멸하라 하기를 원하시나이까?"(누가복음 9:54). 그들은 방금 변화산에서 내려왔는데 거기서 주님이 모세와 엘리야와 함께 계신 것을 보았다. 의심할 여지없이 그들은 하늘에서 불을 명하여 내리는 엘리야의 이야기를 회상했다(열왕기상 18:36-38). 그러나 그들이 불태우는 것을 물었을 때, 예수님은 그들을 바로잡아 주셨다.
He told them, "The Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them"(Luke 9:56). It is not our business to seek vengeance. God treads the winepress of His wrath alone(Isa. 63:3). Our business is to bring the good news of salvation to the world.
그분이 그들에게 말했다. "인자는 사람의 생명을 멸망시키러 온 것이 아니요 구원하러 왔노라"(누가복음 9:56). 복수하는 것은 우리에게 달려있지 않다. 하나님은 홀로 진노의 포도즙틀을 밟는다(이사야 63:3). 우리의 임무는 구원의 좋은 소식을 세상에 알리는 것이다.
Paul wrote, "Do not avenge yourselves … for it is written, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,' says the Lord. Therefore 'If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.' Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good"(Rom. 12:19-21). We must leave vengeance with God.
바울은 이렇게 썼다. "너희가 친히 원수를 갚지 말고 … 기록되었으되, '원수 갚는 것이 내게 있으니 내가 갚으리라'고 주께서 말씀하시니라. '네 원수가 주리거든 먹이고 목마르거든 마시게 하라 그리함으로 네가 숯불을 그 머리에 쌓아 놓으리라' 악에게 지지 말고 선으로 악을 이기라"(로마서 12:19-21). 우리는 복수를 하나님께 맡겨야 한다.

When anger springs up in my heart, dear Lord,//내 눈에 보이는 악 때문에
Because of the evil I see,//마음에서 분이 치밀어 오를 때, 주님,
Help me to channel the wrath that I feel//내가 느끼는 분노를 흘려 보내게 하시고
And do something noble for Thee.//당신을 위하여 고귀한 무슨 일인가를 하도록 도와주세요.

God's wrath and mercy are both seen in the cross of Calvary.//예수님의 진노와 자비를 갈보리 십자가에서 모두 볼 수 있습니다. 그분이 우리를 사랑한 만큼 우리가 그분을 사랑할 수 있을까요? 나를 위한 십자가도 지기 힘든데 남을 위한 십자가를 질 수 있다고 말할 수 있나요? 나보다 약간 나쁘다고 생각되는 사람들 때문에 분노가 치밀어 오르나요? 나도 누군가보다 약간 나쁠 수 있는데, 그런 생각은 전혀 들지 않는가요? 복수는 하나님께 맡기고, 우리는 다만 그분의 명령대로 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑해야지요.
