(레 23:33) 여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대//And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
(레 23:34) 이스라엘 자손에게 고하여 이르라 칠월 십오일은 초막절이니 여호와를 위하여 칠일 동안 지킬 것이라//Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month {shall be} the feast of tabernacles {for} seven days unto the Lord.
(레 23:35) 첫날에는 성회가 있을지니 너희는 아무 노동도 하지 말지며//On the first day {shall be} an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work {therein}.
(레 23:36) 칠일 동안에 너희는 화제를 여호와께 드릴 것이요 제 팔일에도 너희에게 성회가 될 것이며 화제를 여호와께 드릴지니 이는 거룩한 대회라 너희는 아무 노동도 하지 말지니라//Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: it {is} a solemn assembly; {and} ye shall do no servile work {therein}.
(레 23:37) 이것들은 여호와의 절기라 너희는 공포하여 성회를 삼고 번제와 소제와 희생과 전제를 각각 그 날에 여호와께 화제로 드릴지니//These {are} the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim {to be} holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:
(레 23:38) 이는 여호와의 안식일 외에, 너희의 헌물 외에, 너희의 모든 서원 예물 외에, 너희의 모든 낙헌 예물 외에 너희가 여호와께 드리는 것이니라//Beside the sabbaths of the Lord, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the Lord.
(레 23:39) 너희가 토지 소산 거두기를 마치거든 칠월 십 오일부터 칠일 동안 여호와의 절기를 지키되 첫날에도 안식하고 제 팔일에도 안식할 것이요//Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days: on the first day {shall be} a sabbath, and on the eighth day {shall be} a sabbath.
(레 23:40) 첫날에는 너희가 아름다운 나무 실과와 종려 가지와 무성한 가지와 시내 버들을 취하여 너희 하나님 여호와 앞에서 칠일 동안 즐거워할 것이라//And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days.
(레 23:41) 너희는 매년에 칠일 동안 여호와께 이 절기를 지킬지니 너희 대대로의 영원한 규례라 너희는 칠월에 이를 지킬지니라//And ye shall keep it a feast unto the Lord seven days in the year. {It shall be} a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
(레 23:42) 너희는 칠일 동안 초막에 거하되 이스라엘에서 난 자는 다 초막에 거할지니//Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:
(레 23:43) 이는 내가 이스라엘 자손을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내던 때에 초막에 거하게 한 줄을 너희 대대로 알게 함이니라 나는 너희 하나님 여호와니라//That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I {am} the Lord your God.
(레 23:44) 모세가 여호와의 절기를 이스라엘 자손에게 공포하였더라//And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the Lord.
(요절 : 시편 46:1) 하나님은 우리의 피난처시요 힘이시니 환난 중에 만날 큰 도움이시라//God {is} our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Most homes are built to keep its inhabitants safe from ill effects of the weather, but not the dwellings built for Succoth. During this Jewish holiday, also known as the Feast of Tabernacle, worshipers live in dwellings made of leaves and branches. One requirement is that the stars must be visible through the "roof."
대부분의 집은 그 거주자들이 기후의 나쁜 영향으로부터 보호받도록 짓지만, 숙곳에서의 집들은 그렇지 않았다. 초막절이라고 알려진 이 유대인의 명절 동안에, 예배자들은 나뭇잎과 가지들로 만들어진 집에서 지냈다. 한가지 조건은 "지붕"을 통해서 별들을 볼 수 있어야 한다는 것이다.
Obviously, this dwelling provides little protection from inclement weather. And that's the point. Living in this vulnerable shelter reminds the Jews of their dependency on God.

During the days of the prophet Isaiah, the people bragged about a very different kind of dwelling place; they had made lies their refuge and falsehood their hiding place(Isa. 28:15). Because of the Israelites' dependence on ungodly things, the Lord said to them through the prophet, "Hail will sweep away the refuge of lie, and the waters will overflow the hiding place"(v. 17).
선지자 이사야의 때에, 사람들은 매우 다른 종류의 집을 자랑했다; 그들은 거짓으로 그들의 피난처를 삼았고 허위를 그들의 은신처로 삼았다(이사야 28:15). 이스라엘 사람들이 사악한 일을 의지하였으므로, 주님은 선지자를 통하여 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "우박이 거짓의 피난처를 소탕하며 물이 그 숨는 곳에 넘칠 것인즉"(17절).
Succoth calls us to examine our lives to make sure that our security rests not on lies but on God's truth. The Feast of Tabernacles reminds us that all of life is sustained by God's goodness.
숙곳은 우리로 하여금, 우리의 안전은 거짓에 있는 것이 아니라 하나님의 진리에 있다는 것을 확신하도록 우리 삶을 조사해 볼 것을 요청한다. 초막절은 모든 삶이 하나님의 선하심 아래 지탱된다는 것을 기억하게 해 준다.

God is a safe dwelling place in life's storms.//하나님은 인생의 폭풍 가운데 안전하게 거할 수 있는 장소입니다. 우리가 어디를 우리의 피난처로 삼고 있는지 잘 살펴보아야 합니다. 하나님이 아닌 다른 곳을 피난처 삼을 때는 인생의 폭풍이 닥칠 때 그것이 무너져 내릴 수 있습니다. 때로는 자기 자신의 피난처가 좋은 보호막이 될 때가 있습니다. 그러나 그것은 이생에서 뿐입니다. 하나님이 아닌 피난처는 궁극적으로 무너지게 되어 있습니다. 오직 하나님만을 피난처 삼고, 장래에 대한 소망 가운데, 오늘을 기쁨으로 지냅시다.
