BEYOND THE BLUES(PSALM 59:9-17)
(시 59:9) 하나님은 나의 요새이시니 그의 힘으로 말미암아 내가 주를 바라리이다//{Because of} his strength will I wait upon thee: for God {is} my defence.
(시 59:10) 나의 하나님이 그의 인자하심으로 나를 영접하시며 하나님이 나의 원수가 보응 받는 것을 내가 보게 하시리이다//The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see {my desire} upon mine enemies.
(시 59:11) 그들을 죽이지 마옵소서 나의 백성이 잊을까 하나이다 우리 방패 되신 주여 주의 능력으로 그들을 흩으시고 낮추소서//Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.
(시 59:12) 그들의 입술의 말은 곧 그들의 입의 죄라 그들이 말하는 저주와 거짓말로 말미암아 그들이 그 교만한 중에서 사로잡히게 하소서//{For} the sin of their mouth {and} the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying {which} they speak.
(시 59:13) 진노하심으로 소멸하시되 없어지기까지 소멸하사 하나님이 야곱 중에서 다스리심을 땅 끝까지 알게 하소서 (셀라)//Consume {them} in wrath, consume {them}, that they {may} not {be}: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.
(시 59:14) 그들에게 저물어 돌아와서 개처럼 울며 성으로 두루 다니게 하소서//And at evening let them return; {and} let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.
(시 59:15) 그들은 먹을 것을 찾아 유리하다가 배부름을 얻지 못하면 밤을 새우려니와//Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.
(시 59:16) 나는 주의 힘을 노래하며 아침에 주의 인자하심을 높이 부르오리니 주는 나의 요새이시며 나의 환난 날에 피난처심이니이다//But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.
(시 59:17) 나의 힘이시여 내가 주께 찬송하오리니 하나님은 나의 요새이시며 나를 긍휼히 여기시는 하나님이심이니이다//Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God {is} my defence, and {the} God of my mercy.

Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot is best known for enduring classics like “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” and “If You Could Read My Mind.” But one of his lesser-known songs is titled “The Minstrel of the Dawn.” (A minstrel is a troubadour, a singer who puts his poetry to music.) Like us, Lightfoot’s troubadour longs to be “more happy than blue.” Although there are always “blue” things to think about or dwell on, the minstrel chooses to focus on happy things as the new day dawns and then to sing about them.
캐나다의 싱어송라이터 고든 라이트풋은 “에드먼드 피츠제럴드호의 침몰 (The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald)”과 “내 마음을 읽을 수 있다면(If You Could Read My Mind)” 같은 오랫동안 사랑받는 명곡들로 잘 알려져 있다. 하지만 그의 노래 중에 별로 알려지지 않은 노래가 하나 있는데 “새벽의 음유시인(The Minstrel of the Dawn)”이다. (음유시인은 자신의 시를 노래에 담아 부르는 사람을 말함) 라이트풋의 음유시인은 우리처럼 “우울하기보다는 더 행복하고” 싶어한다. 늘 마음 쓰이거나, 고민하게 만드는 “우울한” 일들이 많지만, 이 음유시인은 새로운 날이 밝아올 때 기쁜 일에 집중해서 노래하기를 선택한다.
The minstrel of the psalms, David, penned a similar line: “In the morning I will sing of your love” (PSALM 59:16). David had plenty of “blue” things to dwell on - from enemies ready to attack him to fierce men slandering and conspiring against him (VV. 1-3). “They return at evening,” he sang, “snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city” (V. 6). But he chose, as the new day dawned, to focus not simply on something happy but on someone good – God - and then sing of God’s love, “my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble” (V. 16) on “whom I can rely” (V. 17).
시편의 음유시인 다윗도 그와 비슷한 글을 썼다. “아침에 주의 인자하심을 높이 부르오리니”(시편 59:16). 다윗에게는 그를 따라다니는 “우울한” 일들이 많이 있었다. 적들이 그를 공격할 준비를 하고, 난폭한 사람들이 그를 중상하고 음모를 꾸미는 상황이었다(1-3절). 다윗은 “그들은 저물어 돌아와서 개처럼 울며 성으로 두루 다닌다”(6절)고 하면서도, 새로운 날이 밝아올 때 단순히 기쁜 일에만 마음을 두지 않고, 선하신 분, 곧 하나님께 집중하여 “주는 나의 요새이시며 나의 환난 날에 피난처”(16절)라고 하며 긍휼히 여기시는 하나님의 사랑을 찬송한다(17절).
You may not be a singer-songwriter, but you can still be a minstrel of the dawn. Like David, you can tell God, “I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love” (V. 16). JOHN BLASE
비록 싱어송라이터는 아닐지라도, 새벽의 음유시인이 될 수 있다. 다윗처럼 여러분도 하나님께 이렇게 고백할 수 있다. “나는 주의 힘을 노래하며 아침에 주의 인자하심을 높이 부르오리니”(16절).
