A Modern-Day Paul(Matthew 28:16-20)
(마 28:16) 열한 제자가 갈릴리에 가서 예수께서 지시하신 산에 이르러//Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
(마 28:17) 예수를 뵈옵고 경배하나 아직도 의심하는 사람들이 있더라//And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
(마 28:18) 예수께서 나아와 말씀하여 이르시되 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니//And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
(마 28:19) 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고//Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

George Verwer’s life changed dramatically when he became a believer in Jesus during a Billy Graham crusade in 1957. Soon after his conversion, he began Operation Mobilization (OM), and in 1963 the mission sent two thousand missionaries to Europe. OM went on to become one of the largest mission organizations of the twentieth century, sending out thousands each year. At the time of George’s death in 2023, the mission had more than 3,000 workers from 134 countries working in 147 countries, and nearly 300 other mission agencies had been established as a result of contact with OM.

Like the apostle Paul, George had a passion to bring people to saving faith in Christ. After Paul’s dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, he became a zealous missionary for God, fervently following Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). In his missionary journeys, he also trained Timothy and others to go out and do the same.
조지는 사도 바울처럼 사람들을 그리스도에 대한 구원의 믿음으로 인도하고자 하는 열정이 있었다. 바울이 다메섹 도상에서 극적으로 회심한 후, 그는 “너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼으라”(마 28:19)는 예수님의 명령을 열렬히 따르며 하나님을 위한 열성적인 선교사가 되었다. 그는 선교 여행을 하면서 디모데와 다른 사람들에게도 같은 일을 하도록 훈련시켰다.
Because of Paul’s Spirit-inspired writings, people throughout the centuries have been emboldened to share the gospel. He knew the vital importance of Jesus’ Great Commission (vv. 19-20). That’s why, in Romans 12, he reminds us: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord” (v. 11).
