GOD-GIVEN SKILLS AND TALENTS(EXODUS 31:1-11)
(출 31:1) 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되//And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
(출 31:2) 내가 유다 지파 훌의 손자요 우리의 아들인 브살렐을 지명하여 부르고//See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:
(출 31:3) 하나님의 영을 그에게 충만하게 하여 지혜와 총명과 지식과 여러 가지 재주로//And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,
(출 31:4) 정교한 일을 연구하여 금과 은과 놋으로 만들게 하며//To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,
(출 31:5) 보석을 깎아 물리며 여러 가지 기술로 나무를 새겨 만들게 하리라//And in cutting of stones, to set {them}, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.
(출 31:6) 내가 또 단 지파 아히사막의 아들 오홀리압을 세워 그와 함께 하게 하며 지혜로운 마음이 있는 모든 자에게 내가 지혜를 주어 그들이 내가 네게 명령한 것을 다 만들게 할지니//And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;
(출 31:7) 곧 회막과 증거궤와 그 위의 속죄소와 회막의 모든 기구와//The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that {is} thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle,
(출 31:8) 상과 그 기구와 순금 등잔대와 그 모든 기구와 분향단과//And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense,
(출 31:9) 번제단과 그 모든 기구와 물두멍과 그 받침과//And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot,
(출 31:10) 제사직을 행할 때에 입는 정교하게 짠 의복 곧 제사장 아론의 성의와 그의 아들들의 옷과//And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office,
(출 31:11) 관유와 성소의 향기로운 향이라 무릇 내가 네게 명령한 대로 그들이 만들지니라//And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy {place}: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.
(요절: 출애굽기 31:3-4) 하나님의 영을 그에게 충만하게 하여 지혜와 총명과 지식과 여러 가지 재주로 정교한 일을 연구하여 금과 은과 놋으로 만들게 하며//I have filled (Bezalel) with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills-to make artistic designs. [EXODUS 31:3-4]
Some of the most famous pianists in the world, including Van Cliburn and Vladimir Horowitz, relied on Franz Mohr, chief concert technician at Steinway & Sons in New York, to ensure that their concert pianos were ready for performances. A master piano tuner, Mohr was sought after for his intricate knowledge of pianos and great skill developed over decades. Mohr believed his skills were an avenue to serve God, and he regularly shared his faith with pianists and performance staff.

When the nation of Israel was preparing to build the tent of meeting and other items necessary for worship, they needed individuals with expert skills (EXODUS 31:7-11). God appointed two skilled artisans, Bezalel and Oholiab, to do the work and filled them with the “Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills - to make artistic designs” (VV. 3-4). In addition to their specialized skills, God empowered them with His Spirit to guide their work. Their willingness to use their unique talents in service to God allowed the Israelites to appropriately worship Him.
이스라엘 민족이 회막을 짓고 제사에 필요한 물건들을 만들기 위해 준비할 때, 전문적인 기술을 가진 사람들이 필요했다(출애굽기 31:7-11). 하나님께서는 브살렐과 오홀리압이라는 두 명의 숙련된 장인을 임명하여 일하게 하셨고, 그들에게 “하나님의 영, 지혜와 총명과 지식과 여러가지 재주로 정교한 일을 연구하여… 만들게”(3-4절) 하셨다. 하나님께서는 전문적인 기술 외에도, 성령이 그들의 일을 인도하도록 역사하셨다. 그들이 하나님을 섬기는 데 가진 특별한 재능을 기꺼이 사용함으로써 이스라엘 사람들이 하나님께 제대로 경배를 드릴 수 있었다.
Whether or not we consider ourselves artistic, each of us has unique, God-given gifts that we can use to serve others (ROMANS 12:6). Empowered by the Spirit, we can serve and worship God through our work using the wisdom, understanding, and skills He’s given us. LISA M. SAMRA
