The Bible’s Cherished Words(John 6:60-69)
(요 6:60) 제자 중 여럿이 듣고 말하되 이 말씀은 어렵도다 누가 들을 수 있느냐 한 대//Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard {this}, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
(요 6:61) 예수께서 스스로 제자들이 이 말씀에 대하여 수군거리는 줄 아시고 이르시되 이 말이 너희에게 걸림이 되느냐//When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
(요 6:62) 그러면 너희는 인자가 이전에 있던 곳으로 올라가는 것을 본다면 어떻게 하겠느냐//{What} and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
(요 6:63) 살리는 것은 영이니 육은 무익하니라 내가 너희에게 이른 말은 영이요 생명이라//It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, {they} are spirit, and {they} are life.
(요 6:64) 그러나 너희 중에 믿지 아니하는 자들이 있느니라 하시니 이는 예수께서 믿지 아니하는 자들이 누구며 자기를 팔 자가 누구인지 처음부터 아심이러라//But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
(요 6:65) 또 이르시되 그러므로 전에 너희에게 말하기를 내 아버지께서 오게 하여 주지 아니하시면 누구든지 내게 올 수 없다 하였노라 하시니라//And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
(요 6:66) 그 때부터 그의 제자 중에서 많은 사람이 떠나가고 다시 그와 함께 다니지 아니하더라//From that {time} many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
(요 6:67) 예수께서 열두 제자에게 이르시되 너희도 가려느냐//Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
(요 6:68) 시몬 베드로가 대답하되 주여 영생의 말씀이 주께 있사오니 우리가 누구에게로 가오리이까//Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
(요 6:69) 우리가 주는 하나님의 거룩하신 자이신 줄 믿고 알았사옵나이다//And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
(요절: 요한복음 6:68) 영생의 말씀이 주께 있사오니//You have the words of eternal life.[John 6:68]
My dad carried his beloved Bible for more than thirty years before the worn binding finally split in two. When we took it to a book binder for professional restoration, the craftsman was curious about what made the book so special. It wasn’t an expensive antique, and its pages were full of handwritten notes. His questions about the Bible created an opportunity for my family to share the gospel and pray with him.
아버지는 30년 넘게 아끼던 성경을 들고 다니다가 결국 낡은 제본이 둘로 찢어졌다. 전문적인 복원을 위해 제본소에 가져갔을 때, 장인은 이 책이 왜 그렇게 특별한지 궁금해했다. 값비싼 골동품도 아니었고, 페이지마다 손으로 쓴 메모로 가득 차 있었기 때문이다. 성경에 대한 그의 질문은 제 가족에게 복음을 전하고 함께 기도할 수 있는 기회를 만들어 주었다.
Yes, the Bible is more than just a family heirloom or a nice decoration. Inside its pages are the “words of eternal life” (John 6:68) as God reveals Himself to us through His Son. The opening chapter of the gospel of John says that Jesus is the “Word [who] was with God, and . . . was God” (1:1). He’s described as making “his dwelling [home] among us” (v. 14). The Bible contains not only the account of the life of Christ but also all of God’s activity throughout the ages, from creation to its eventual redemption.
성경은 단순한 가보나 멋진 장식물 그 이상이다. 그 안에는 하나님께서 아들을 통해 우리에게 자신을 계시하신 “영생의 말씀”(요 6:68)이 담겨 있다. 요한복음의 첫 장은 예수님이 “하나님과 함께 계셨고 ... 하나님이시다”(1:1)고 말한다. 그분은 “우리 가운데 거처[집]를 삼으셨다”(14절)고 묘사된다. 성경에는 그리스도의 생애에 대한 기록뿐만 아니라 창조부터 궁극적인 구속에 이르기까지 모든 시대에 걸친 하나님의 모든 활동이 담겨 있다.
During His time on earth, Jesus spoke words that were “full of the Spirit and life” (6:63). When He gave a difficult teaching and the crowds grumbled and many “turned back and no longer followed him” (v. 66), His disciples chose to stay. They realized that no other words could satisfy. My dad felt the same way about his Bible. Through many mountains and valleys in his life, God provided hope, direction, comfort, and truth through the words of Scripture. Karen Pimpo
예수님은 지상에 계실 때 “영과 생명이 충만한”(6:63) 말씀을 하셨다. 예수님께서 어려운 가르침을 주셨을 때 군중이 불평하고 많은 사람이 “돌아서서 더 이상 따르지 않았을 때”(66절), 제자들은 머물기를 선택했다. 그들은 다른 어떤 말로도 만족할 수 없다는 것을 깨달은 것이다. 아버지도 성경에 대해 같은 생각을 하셨다. 아버지의 인생의 많은 산과 골짜기를 통과할 때 하나님은 성경 말씀을 통해 희망과 방향, 위로와 진리를 주셨다.
