EYES TO SEE(2 KINGS 6:15-23)
(왕하 6:15) 하나님의 사람의 사환이 일찍이 일어나서 나가보니 군사와 말과 병거가 성읍을 에워쌌는지라 그의 사환이 엘리사에게 말하되 아아, 내 주여 우리가 어찌하리이까 하니//And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
(왕하 6:16) 대답하되 두려워하지 말라 우리와 함께 한 자가 그들과 함께 한 자보다 많으니라 하고//And he answered, Fear not: for they that {be} with us {are} more than they that {be} with them.
(왕하 6:17) 기도하여 이르되 여호와여 원하건대 그의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서 하니 여호와께서 그 청년의 눈을 여시매 그가 보니 불말과 불병거가 산에 가득하여 엘리사를 둘렀더라//And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain {was} full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
(왕하 6:18) 아람 사람이 엘리사에게 내려오매 엘리사가 여호와께 기도하여 이르되 원하건대 저 무리의 눈을 어둡게 하옵소서 하매 엘리사의 말대로 그들의 눈을 어둡게 하신지라//And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
(왕하 6:19) 엘리사가 그들에게 이르되 이는 그 길이 아니요 이는 그 성읍도 아니니 나를 따라 오라 내가 너희를 인도하여 너희가 찾는 사람에게로 나아가리라 하고 그들을 인도하여 사마리아에 이르니라//And Elisha said unto them, This {is} not the way, neither {is} this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.
(왕하 6:20) 사마리아에 들어갈 때에 엘리사가 이르되 여호와여 이 무리의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서 하니 여호와께서 그들의 눈을 여시매 그들이 보니 자기들이 사마리아 가운데에 있더라//And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Lord, open the eyes of these {men}, that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, {they were} in the midst of Samaria.
(왕하 6:21) 이스라엘 왕이 그들을 보고 엘리사에게 이르되 내 아버지여 내가 치리이까 내가 치리이까 하니//And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite {them}? shall I smite {them}?
(왕하 6:22) 대답하되 치지 마소서 칼과 활로 사로잡은 자인들 어찌 치리이까 떡과 물을 그들 앞에 두어 먹고 마시게 하고 그들의 주인에게로 돌려보내소서 하는지라//And he answered, Thou shalt not smite {them}: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
(왕하 6:23) 왕이 위하여 음식을 많이 베풀고 그들이 먹고 마시매 놓아보내니 그들이 그들의 주인에게로 돌아가니라 이로부터 아람 군사의 부대가 다시는 이스라엘 땅에 들어오지 못하니라//And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
(요절: 열왕기하 6:17) (엘리사가) 기도하여 이르되 여호와여 원하건대 그의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서//Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” [2 KINGS 6:17]
Joy was concerned for her relative Sandy, who for years had struggled with alcoholism and mental-health issues. When she went to Sandy’s apartment, the doors were locked, and it appeared vacant. As she and others planned their search for Sandy, Joy prayed, “God, help me to see what I’m not seeing.” As they were leaving, Joy looked back at Sandy’s apartment and saw the tiniest movement of a curtain. In that moment, she knew that Sandy was alive. Although it took emergency assistance to reach her, Joy rejoiced in this answered prayer.
조이는 오랫동안 알코올 중독과 정신 건강 문제로 힘들어하고 있는 친척 샌디를 염려하고 있었다. 조이가 샌디의 아파트에 찾아갔을 때, 문은 잠겨 있었고 아무도 없는 것 같았다. 다른 사람들과 함께 샌디를 찾을 계획을 세우고 나서 조이는 기도했다. “하나님, 제가 못 보고 있는 것을 볼 수 있도록 도와주세요.” 그들이 아파트를 떠날 때 조이는 샌디의 아파트를 뒤돌아 보았는데 커튼이 미세하게 움직이는 것을 보았다. 그 순간, 조이는 샌디가 살아 있음을 알았다. 샌디를 구하기 위해서 긴급 구조를 요청해야 했지만, 조이는 기도가 응답된 것이 정말 기뻤다.
The prophet Elisha knew the power of asking God to reveal to him His reality. When the Syrian army surrounded their city, Elisha’s servant shivered in fear. Not the man of God, however, for with God’s help he glimpsed the unseen. Elisha prayed that the servant too would see, and “the Lord opened the servant’s eyes” to see “the hills full of horses and chariots of fire” (2 KINGS 6:17).
엘리사 선지자는 하나님께 그분이 살아 계심을 나타내 달라고 간구하는 기도의 능력을 알고 있었다. 아람 군대가 그들의 성을 포위했을 때, 엘리사의 사환은 두려움에 몸을 떨었다. 그러나 하나님의 사람이 아니었던 그 사환은 하나님의 도우심으로 보이지 않는 것을 얼핏 엿볼 수 있었다. 엘리사가 그 사환도 볼 수 있도록 기도하자, “여호와께서 그 청년의 눈을 여시매… 불말과 불병거가 산에 가득한” 것을 보게 하셨다(열왕기하 6:17).
God lifted the veil between the spiritual and physical worlds for Elisha and his servant. Joy believes God helped her see the tiny flicker of the curtain, giving her hope. We too can ask Him to give us the spiritual vision to understand what’s happening around us, whether with our loved ones or in our communities. And we too can be agents of His love, truth, and compassion. AMY BOUCHER PYE
하나님은 엘리사와 그의 사환을 위해 영적인 세계와 현실 세계 사이에 놓인 가림막을 치워 주셨다. 조이는 하나님이 커튼의 작은 움직임을 볼 수 있도록 도우셔서 그녀에게 희망을 주셨음을 믿는다. 우리도 우리 주위에 사랑하는 이들이나 공동체에서 일어나는 일들을 이해할 수 있는 영적 안목을 달라고 하나님께 간구할 수 있다. 그리고 우리 또한 하나님의 사랑과 진리와 자비를 전하는 자가 될 수 있다.
How could you ask God to open your eyes to His truth concerning situations that weigh you down? How has He revealed His reality to you previously?
어떻게 당신을 짓누르는 상황에 관해 하나님의 진리에 눈을 뜨게 해달라고 간구할 수 있을까요? 하나님은 이전에 당신에게 그분이 살아 계심을 어떻게 나타내셨습니까?
Father of all mercies, please open my eyes to see Your love and grace that I might share it with others.//모든 자비의 아버지 하나님, 다른 이들과 나눌 수 있도록 하나님의 사랑과 은혜를 볼 수 있는 눈을 열어 주소서. 내가 하나님께로부터 받은 자비와 은혜가 차고 넘쳐서 주변 사람들에게 흘러가게 하소서. 재정의 흐름을 아까워하지 않고 하나님의 물질이 필요한 곳에 적절하게 사용되는 데에 일조를 하게 하소서.
