United Diversity in Christ(1 Corinthians 12:12-14,21-27)
(고전 12:12) 몸은 하나인데 많은 지체가 있고 몸의 지체가 많으나 한 몸임과 같이 그리스도도 그러하니라//For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also {is} Christ.
(고전 12:13) 우리가 유대인이나 헬라인이나 종이나 자유인이나 다 한 성령으로 세례를 받아 한 몸이 되었고 또 다 한 성령을 마시게 하셨느니라//For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether {we be} Jews or Gentiles, whether {we be} bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
(고전 12:14) 몸은 한 지체뿐만 아니요 여럿이니//For the body is not one member, but many.
(고전 12:21) 눈이 손더러 내가 너를 쓸 데가 없다 하거나 또한 머리가 발더러 내가 너를 쓸 데가 없다 하지 못하리라//And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
(고전 12:22) 그뿐 아니라 더 약하게 보이는 몸의 지체가 도리어 요긴하고//Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
(고전 12:23) 우리가 몸의 덜 귀히 여기는 그것들을 더욱 귀한 것들로 입혀 주며 우리의 아름답지 못한 지체는 더욱 아름다운 것을 얻느니라 그런즉//And those {members} of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely {parts} have more abundant comeliness.
(고전 12:24) 우리의 아름다운 지체는 그럴 필요가 없느니라 오직 하나님이 몸을 고르게 하여 부족한 지체에게 귀중함을 더하사//For our comely {parts} have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that {part} which lacked:
(고전 12:25) 몸 가운데서 분쟁이 없고 오직 여러 지체가 서로 같이 돌보게 하셨느니라//That there should be no schism in the body; but {that} the members should have the same care one for another.
(고전 12:26) 만일 한 지체가 고통을 받으면 모든 지체가 함께 고통을 받고 한 지체가 영광을 얻으면 모든 지체가 함께 즐거워하느니라//And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
(고전 12:27) 너희는 그리스도의 몸이요 지체의 각 부분이라//Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
(요절: 고린도전서 12:18) 그러나 이제 하나님이 그 원하시는 대로 지체를 각각 몸에 두셨으니//God has placed the parts in the body . . . just as he wanted them to be.[1 Corinthians 12:18]
In his essay “Service and the Spectrum,” Professor Daniel Bowman Jr. writes of the difficulty of navigating decisions about how to serve his church as an autistic person. He explains, “Autistic people have to forge a new path forward every single time, a unique path that takes into account . . . mental, emotional, and physical energy . . . alone/recharging time; sensory inputs and comfort level . . . time of day; whether or not we’re being valued for our strengths and accommodated for our needs rather than excluded for perceived deficits; and much more.” For many people, Bowman writes, such decisions, “while reorienting people’s time and energy, likely will not undo them. Those same decisions might well undo me.”

Bowman believes that the vision of mutuality Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 12 could be a healing solution. There, in verses 4-6, Paul describes God uniquely gifting each of His people for “the common good” (v. 7). Each is an “indispensable” member of Christ’s body (v. 22). When churches come to understand each person’s unique, God-given wiring and gifting, instead of pressuring everyone to help in the same way, they can support their members to serve in ways that fit their giftings.
보우먼은 바울이 고린도전서 12장에서 묘사한 상호성의 비전이 치유적 해결책이 될 수 있다고 믿는다. 4-6절에서 바울은 하나님께서 "공동의 유익"을 위해 각자에게 고유한 은사를 주셨다고 묘사한다(7절). 각 사람은 그리스도의 몸에서 "없어서는 안 될" 지체이다(22절). 교회가 모든 사람에게 같은 방식으로 봉사하라고 강요하는 대신, 하나님께서 주신 각자의 고유한 재능과 은사를 이해하게 되면 성도들이 각자의 은사에 맞는 방식으로 봉사할 수 있도록 지원할 수 있다.

이런 식으로 각 사람은 번영과 온전함을 발견하고 그리스도의 몸 안에서 자신의 소중한 자리에서 안전할 수 있다(26절).

Please help me to value every member of Christ’s body.//사랑의 하나님, 우리 모두를 독특하게 창조해 주셔서 감사합니다. 그리스도의 몸의 모든 지체를 소중히 여기도록 도와주소서. 누구를 대하든 무엇을 대하든 온유함으로 대하고 나보다는 남의 입장에서 항상 생각하고 행동하게 하소서. 잠시 나 위주로 생각하고 행동한 것이 깨달아지거든 최대한 빨리 나의 생각과 행동을 수정하고 남을 배려하는 길로 가게 하소서. 나의 자아가 죽어 오직 내 안에 그리스도가 사시도록 끊임없이 노력하게 하소서.
