KNOWING THE SHEPHERD’S VOICE(JOHN 10:1–10)
(요 10:1) 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 문을 통하여 양의 우리에 들어가지 아니하고 다른 데로 넘어가는 자는 절도며 강도요//Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
(요 10:2) 문으로 들어가는 이는 양의 목자라//But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
(요 10:3) 문지기는 그를 위하여 문을 열고 양은 그의 음성을 듣나니 그가 자기 양의 이름을 각각 불러 인도하여 내느니라//To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
(요 10:4) 자기 양을 다 내놓은 후에 앞서 가면 양들이 그의 음성을 아는 고로 따라오되//And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
(요 10:5) 타인의 음성은 알지 못하는 고로 타인을 따르지 아니하고 도리어 도망하느니라//And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
(요 10:6) 예수께서 이 비유로 그들에게 말씀하셨으나 그들은 그가 하신 말씀이 무엇인지 알지 못하니라//This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
(요 10:7) 그러므로 예수께서 다시 이르시되 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 말하노니 나는 양의 문이라//Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
(요 10:8) 나보다 먼저 온 자는 다 절도요 강도니 양들이 듣지 아니하였느니라//All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
(요 10:9) 내가 문이니 누구든지 나로 말미암아 들어가면 구원을 받고 또는 들어가며 나오며 꼴을 얻으리라//I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
(요 10:10) 도둑이 오는 것은 도둑질하고 죽이고 멸망시키려는 것뿐이요 내가 온 것은 양으로 생명을 얻게 하고 더 풍성히 얻게 하려는 것이라//The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have {it} more abundantly.

When I was a boy living on a ranch in Tennessee, I spent glorious afternoons roaming with my best friend. We’d hike into the woods, ride ponies, visit the rodeo arena, and venture into the barn to watch the cowboys work the horses. But whenever I heard my dad’s whistle - that clear sound slicing through the wind and all the other clatter - I’d immediately drop whatever I was doing and head home. The signal was unmistakable, and I knew I was being called by my father. Decades later, I’d still recognize that whistle.
어릴 적 테네시의 한 농장에서 살았던 나는 화창한 오후가 되면 친한 친구와 함께 돌아다니면서 놀았다. 우리는 숲에서 등산을 하고, 조랑말을 타고, 로데오 경기장을 방문하고, 카우보이들이 말을 다루는 것을 보려고 겁 없이 마구간 안으로 들어가곤 했다. 하지만 바람과 모든 소음을 뚫고 선명하게 들려오는 아버지의 휘파람 소리를 들으면 나는 하던 모든 것을 멈추고 곧장 집으로 향했다. 그 신호는 틀림없었고, 아버지가 나를 부른다는 사실을 알았기 때문이다. 수십 년이 지난 지금도 나는 여전히 그 휘파람 소리를 기억할 수 있다.
Jesus told His disciples that He was the Shepherd, and His followers were the sheep. “The sheep listen to [the shepherd’s] voice,” He said. “He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out” (JOHN 10:3). In a time when numerous leaders and teachers sought to confuse Christ’s disciples by asserting their authority, He declared that His loving voice could still be heard clearly, more distinct than all the others. “His sheep follow [the shepherd], because they know his voice” (V. 4).
예수님은 제자들에게 그가 목자이며 그를 따르는 자들은 양이라고 하셨다. 주님은 “양은 (목자)의 음성을 듣나니 그가 자기 양의 이름을 각각 불러 인도하여 내느니라”(요한복음 10:3)고 말씀하셨다. 수많은 지도자들과 선생들이 자신들의 권위를 내세워 예수님의 제자들을 혼란에 빠뜨리려 할 때도, 주님은 다른 어떤 소리보다 그의 사랑의 목소리를 더 분명히 들을 수 있을 것이라고 말씀하셨다. “양들은 (목자)의 음성을 알고 뒤따라간다” (4절, 현대인의 성경).
May we be careful as we listen for Jesus’ voice and avoid foolishly dismissing it, for the fundamental truth remains: The Shepherd speaks clearly, and His sheep hear His voice. Perhaps through a verse of Scripture, the words of a believing friend, or the nudge of the Spirit - Jesus speaks, and we do hear. WINN COLLIER
우리가 조심하여 예수님의 음성을 주의 깊게 듣고, 어리석게 그것을 놓치는 일이 없기를 바란다. 왜냐하면 목자이신 주님이 분명하게 말씀하시면 그의 양들은 그의 음성을 듣는다는 것이 여전히 기본적인 진리이기 때문이다. 때로는 성경의 한 구절이나 믿는 친구의 말, 혹은 성령님께서 살짝 깨닫게 해주시는 것을 통해 우리는 예수님이 말씀하시는 것을 들을 수 있다.

God, I need to be reminded that You’re speaking, and that I do hear You. Help me pay attention. Help me to listen and respond.//하나님, 주님이 말씀하시고 제가 주님의 말씀을 듣는다는 것을 되새겨 주소서. 그리하여 집중하여 듣고 응답하도록 도와주소서. 말씀 가운데, 기도 가운데, 환경을 통하여, 또는 교회를 통하여 주님이 말씀하시는 음성을 잘 들을 수 있도록 나를 인도하소서. 성령을 통하여 들려주시는 주님의 음성을 귀 기울여 듣게 하소서.
