본문 : 요한일서 3:16-23(1 John 3:16-23)
(요일 3:16) 그가 우리를 위하여 목숨을 버리셨으니 우리가 이로써 사랑을 알고 우리도 형제들을 위하여 목숨을 버리는 것이 마땅하니라//Hereby perceive we the love {of God}, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
(요일 3:17) 누가 이 세상 재물을 가지고 형제의 궁핍함을 보고도 도와줄 마음을 막으면 하나님의 사랑이 어찌 그 속에 거할까보냐//But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels {of compassion} from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
(요일 3:18) 자녀들아 우리가 말과 혀로만 사랑하지 말고 오직 행함과 진실함으로 하자//My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
(요일 3:19) 이로써 우리가 진리에 속한 줄을 알고 또 우리 마음을 주 앞에서 굳세게 하리로다//And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
(요일 3:20) 우리 마음이 혹 우리를 책망할 일이 있거든 하물며 우리 마음보다 크시고 모든 것을 아시는 하나님일까 보냐//For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
(요일 3:21) 사랑하는 자들아 만일 우리 마음이 우리를 책망할 것이 없으면 하나님 앞에서 담대함을 얻고//Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, {then} have we confidence toward God.
(요일 3:22) 무엇이든지 구하는 바를 그에게 받나니 이는 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키고 그 앞에서 기뻐하시는 것을 행함이라//And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
(요일 3:23) 그의 계명은 이것이니 곧 그 아들 예수 그리스도의 이름을 믿고 그가 우리에게 주신 계명대로 서로 사랑할 것이니라//And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
(요절 : 요한일서 3:22) 무엇이든지 구하는 바를 그에게 받나니 이는 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키고 그 앞에서 기뻐하시는 것을 행함이라//And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
When Josh McDowell's mother died, he was not sure of her salvation. He became depressed. Was she a christian or not? "Lord," he prayed, "somehow give me the answer so I can get back to normal. I've just got to know." It seemed like an impossible request.

Two days later, Josh drove out to the ocean and walked to the end of a pier to be alone. There sat an elderly woman in a lawnchair, fishing. "Where's your home originally?" she asked. "Michigan - Union City," Josh replied. "Nobody's heard of it. I tell people it's a suburb of -" "Battle Creek," interrupted the woman. "I had a cousin from there. Did you know the McDowell family?"
이틀 뒤에 Josh는 차를 몰고 바다로 가서 혼자 있기 위하여 부두의 끝까지 걸었다. 거기에 나이 든 여자가 얇은 면포로 만든 의자에 앉아서 낚시를 하고 있었다. "당신의 원래 고향은 어디인가요?" 라고 그녀가 물었다. Josh가 대답을 했다. "Michigan의 Union City인데, 아무도 그곳에 대해 들어본 적이 없을 거예요. 내가 사람들에게 말할 때는, 그곳이 교외인데-" 그녀가 끼어 들어서 말했다. "Battle Creek의 교외. 나는 거기 출신의 사촌이 있는데, 혹시 McDowell 가족을 아나요?"
Stunned, Josh responded, "Yes, I'm Josh McDowell." "I can't believe it," said the woman. "I'm a cousin of your mother." "Do you remember anything at all about my mother's spiritual life?" asked Josh. "Why sure - your mom and I were just girls - teenagers - when a tent revival came to town. We both went forward to accept Christ." "Praise God!" shouted Josh, startling the surrounding fishermen.
Josh는 대경실색하여 대답했다. "예, 제가 Josh McDowell입니다." 그러자 그녀가 말했다. "믿을 수 없군요. 나는 당신 엄마의 사촌이예요." Josh가 물었다. "내 어머니의 영적 생활에 대해 조금이라도 기억하는 것이 있나요?" "그럼요 - 당신 어머니와 내가 소녀였을 때, 즉 십대였을 때, 천막부흥회가 우리 마을에 왔었어요. 우리는 둘이 나가서 예수님을 영접했어요." "하나님을 찬양합니다!"라고 Josh가 큰 소리를 질러서 근처에 있는 낚시꾼들이 놀랐다.
God delights to give us what we ask when it is in His will. Never underestimate His desire to respond to our prayers. A surprise may be just around the corner. - Dennis De Haan -

I thought it not divinely willed,//나는 그것을 거룩하게 구하지 않은 줄 알았네.
And then the joyous, tear-stained smile//그런데 그때 즐겁고, 눈물로 얼룩진 웃음이 있었던 것은
Of faith triumphant, hope fulfilled!//바로 믿음의 승리였고 소망이 충족된 때문이네.

If you get definite with God, He'll get definite with you./당신 마음이 하나님께 확정된다면, 그분 역시 당신에게 확정되실 것입니다. 내 마음의 중심에 하나님을 모시면, 하나님도 그분의 마음의 중심에 우리를 두실 것입니다. 우리는 다만 그분이 기뻐하시는 일을 할 따름입니다.
