(대하 20:1) 그 후에 모압 자손과 암몬 자손이 몇 마온 사람과 함께 와서 여호사밧을 치고자 한지라//It came to pass after this also, {that} the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them {other} beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
(대하 20:2) 혹이 와서 여호사밧에게 고하여 가로되 큰 무리가 바다 저편 아람에서 왕을 치러 오는데 이제 하사손다말 곧 엔게디에 있나이다//Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they {be} in Hazazontamar, which {is} Engedi.
(대하 20:3) 여호사밧이 두려워하여 여호와께로 낯을 향하여 간구하고 온 유다 백성에게 금식하라 공포하매//And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
(대하 20:4) 유다 사람이 여호와께 도우심을 구하려 하여 유다 모든 성읍에서 모여와서 여호와께 간구하더라//And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask {help} of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
(대하 20:5) 여호사밧이 여호와의 전 새 뜰 앞에서 유다와 예루살렘의 회중 가운데 서서//And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,
(대하 20:6) 가로되 우리 열조의 하나님 여호와여 주는 하늘에서 하나님이 아니시니이까 이방 사람의 모든 나라를 다스리지 아니하시나이까 주의 손에 권세와 능력이 있사오니 능히 막을 사람이 없나이다//And said, O Lord God of our fathers, {art} not thou God in heaven? and rulest {not} thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand {is there not} power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
(대하 20:7) 우리 하나님이시여 전에 이 땅 거민을 주의 백성 이스라엘 앞에서 쫓아내시고 그 땅으로 주의 벗 아브라함의 자손에게 영영히 주지 아니하셨나이까//{Art} not thou our God, {who} didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
(대하 20:8) 저희가 이 땅에 거하여 주의 이름을 위하여 한 성소를 건축하고 이르기를//And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
(대하 20:9) 만일 재앙이나 난리나 견책이나 온역이나 기근이 우리에게 임하면 주의 이름이 이 전에 있으니 우리가 이 전 앞과 주의 앞에 서서 이 환난 가운데서 주께 부르짖은즉 들으시고 구원하시리라 하였나이다//If, {when} evil cometh upon us, {as} the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name {is} in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
(대하 20:10) 옛적에 이스라엘이 애굽 땅에서 나올 때에 암몬 자손과 모압 자손과 세일산 사람을 침노하기를 주께서 용납하지 아니하시므로 이에 치우쳐 저희를 떠나고 멸하지 아니하였거늘//And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
(대하 20:11) 이제 저희가 우리에게 갚는 것을 보옵소서 저희가 와서 주께서 우리에게 주신 주의 기업에서 우리를 쫓아내고자 하나이다//Behold, {I say, how} they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
(대하 20:12) 우리 하나님이여 저희를 징벌하지 아니하시나이까 우리를 치러 오는 이 큰 무리를 우리가 대적할 능력이 없고 어떻게 할 줄도 알지 못하옵고 오직 주만 바라보나이다 하고//O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes {are} upon thee.
(대하 20:13) 유다 모든 사람은 그 아내와 자녀와 어린 자로 더불어 여호와 앞에 섰더라//And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
(대하 20:14) 여호와의 신이 회중 가운데서 레위 사람 야하시엘에게 임하셨으니 저는 아삽 자손 맛다냐의 현손이요 여이엘의 증손이요 브나야의 손자요 스가랴의 아들이더라//Then upon Jahaziel the son Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;
(대하 20:15) 야하시엘이 가로되 온 유다와 예루살렘 거민과 여호사밧 왕이여 들을지어다 여호와께서 너희에게 말씀하시기를 이 큰 무리로 인하여 두려워하거나 놀라지 말라 이 전쟁이 너희에게 속한 것이 아니요 하나님께 속한 것이니라//And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle {is} not yours, but God's.
(대하 20:16) 내일 너희는 마주 내려가라 저희가 시스 고개로 말미암아 올라오리니 너희가 골짜기 어귀 여루엘 들 앞에서 만나려니와//To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
(대하 20:17) 이 전쟁에는 너희가 싸울 것이 없나니 항오를 이루고 서서 너희와 함께 한 여호와가 구원하는 것을 보라 유다와 예루살렘아 너희는 두려워하며 놀라지 말고 내일 저희를 마주 나가라 여호와가 너희와 함께 하리라 하셨느니라 하매//Ye shall not {need} to fight in this {battle}: set yourselves, stand ye {still}, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord {will be} with you.
(요절 : 역대하 20:12) 우리를 치러 오는 이 큰 무리를 우리가 대적할 능력이 없고 어떻게 할 줄도 알지 못하옵고 오직 주만 바라보나이다 하고//for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes {are} upon thee.
During the years that I taught junior high students in an overcrowded school, I used to say (only slightly in jest) that my morning prayer was 2 Chronicles 20:12 - "O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You."
너무 많은 학생이 다니는 중학교에서 학생들을 가르칠 때, 약간은 농담으로 이렇게 말하곤 했다. 오늘 아침에 역대하 20:12을 기도했다. - "오 우리의 주님, 그들을 벌하시지 않으십니까? 우리는 우리를 대적하여 다가오는 큰 무리들을 대적할 힘이 없습니다. 또한 무엇을 해야 할지도 모르겠습니다. 우리 눈이 오직 주만 바라봅니다."
When Judah's King Jehoshaphat spoke those words, it was a matter of life and death. As a coalition of armies marched against Jerusalem, the people of Judah gathered to seek God's guidance and help(v. 13).
유다 왕 여호사밧이 이 말을 했을 때, 그것은 생사의 문제였다. 적의 연합군이 예루살렘으로 쳐들어왔을 때, 유다 사람들은 하나님의 인도와 도움을 구하기 위해 모였다(13절).
During threatening times of disruption and change, we need to ask, "Lord, what do You want to do with this moment?" And like King Jehosaphat, we should begin our prayer with praise to our sovereign and powerful Father in heaven(vv. 5-9).
혼란과 변화로 위협받는 시기에 우리는 이렇게 구해야 한다. "주님, 이 순간에 무엇하기를 원하십니까?" 그리고 여호사밧 왕과 같이, 하늘에 계신 우리의 주권자이며 능력있는 아버지께 찬양을 드리는 것으로 기도를 시작해야 한다.
God told the king and his people: "Do not be afraid nor dismayed. … for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow go down against them. … for the Lord is with you"(vv. 15-17).
하나님은 왕과 그의 백성들에게 말씀하셨다. "두려워하지 말고 놀라지 마라. … 전쟁은 너희에게 있지 않고 나에게 속한 것이다. 내일 그들을 대항하여 내려가라. … 주님이 너와 함께 하심이라"(15-17절).
In stressful, confusing situation, we might ask a worried "What now?" But if we look to the Lord and trust in His care, our fear will be replaced with peace. - David McCasland -
