JUST A WHISPERT(JOB 26:7–14)
(욥 26:7) 그는 북쪽을 허공에 펴시며 땅을 아무 것도 없는 곳에 매다시며//He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, {and} hangeth the earth upon nothing.
(욥 26:8) 물을 빽빽한 구름에 싸시나 그 밑의 구름이 찢어지지 아니하느니라//He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
(욥 26:9) 그는 보름달을 가리시고 자기의 구름을 그 위에 펴시며//He holdeth back the face of his throne, {and} spreadeth his cloud upon it.
(욥 26:10) 수면에 경계를 그으시니 빛과 어둠이 함께 끝나는 곳이니라//He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
(욥 26:11) 그가 꾸짖으신즉 하늘 기둥이 흔들리며 놀라느니라//The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
(욥 26:12) 그는 능력으로 바다를 잔잔하게 하시며 지혜로 라합을 깨뜨리시며//He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
(욥 26:13) 그의 입김으로 하늘을 맑게 하시고 손으로 날렵한 뱀을 무찌르시나니//By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
(욥 26:14) 보라 이런 것들은 그의 행사의 단편일 뿐이요 우리가 그에게서 들은 것도 속삭이는 소리일 뿐이니 그의 큰 능력의 우렛소리를 누가 능히 헤아리랴//Lo, these {are} parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

The whispering wall in New York City’s Grand Central Station is an acoustic oasis from the clamor of the area. This unique spot allows people to communicate quiet messages from a distance of thirty feet. When one person stands at the base of a granite archway and speaks softly into the wall, soundwaves travel up and over the curved stone to the listener on the other side.
뉴욕시의 그랜드 센트럴 역에 있는 ‘속삭이는 벽’은 그 지역의 소음으로부터 벗어나게 해주는 음향 오아시스이다. 이 독특한 장소에서는 사람들이 30피트(약 9미터) 떨어진 곳에서도 조용하게 대화를 주고받을 수 있다. 한 사람이 아치형의 화강암 길 바닥에 서서 벽에 대고 부드럽게 말하면 음파가 굽은 돌 위로 이동하여 반대편 사람에게 전달된다.
Job heard the whisper of a message when his life was filled with noise and the tragedy of losing nearly everything (JOB 1:13–19; 2:7). His friends blabbered their opinions, his own thoughts tumbled endlessly, and trouble had invaded every aspect of his existence. Still, the majesty of nature spoke softly to him about God’s divine power.
욥은 그의 삶이 온통 소음과 거의 모든 것을 잃는 비극으로 점철될 때 한 속삭이는 메시지를 들었다(욥기 1:13-19; 2:7). 친구들은 각기 그들의 생각을 마구 쏟아붓고, 욥의 생각도 끝없이 허물어져 가면서 그의 삶 전반에 문제가 몰려왔다. 그러나 장엄한 자연은 여전히 그에게 하나님의 신성한 능력을 부드럽게 말해주었다.
The splendor of the skies, the mystery of the earth suspended in space, and the stability of the horizon reminded Job that the world was in the palm of God’s hand (26:7–11). Even a churning sea and a rumbling atmosphere led him to say, “these are but the outer fringe of [God’s] works; how faint the whisper we hear of him!” (V. 14).
빛나는 하늘, 허공에 매달린 신비로운 지구, 그리고 안정적인 수평선은 욥에게 이 세상이 하나님의 손바닥 안에 있음을 기억하게 해주었다(26:7- 11). 욥은 요동치는 바다와 요란한 하늘을 보면서도 “이런 것들은 (하나님의) 행사의 단편일 뿐이요 우리가 그에게서 들은 것도 속삭이는 소리일 뿐”(14절) 이라고 말했다.
If the world’s wonders represent just a fragment of God’s capabilities, it’s clear that His power exceeds our ability to understand it. In times of brokenness, this gives us hope. God can do anything, including what He did for Job as He sustained him during suffering. JENNIFER BENSON SCHULDT
세상의 경이로움이 하나님의 능력의 극히 일부만을 나타내는 것이라면, 그분의 능력은 우리의 이해 정도를 능가하는 것이 분명하다. 이 사실은 상심의 시대를 사는 우리에게 소망을 준다. 하나님은 욥을 고난 중에 붙드실 때 그를 위해 행하셨던 일들을 포함하여 어떤 일도 다 하실 수 있다.

Dear God, when my problems seem big, help me to remember that You’re bigger, and nothing is impossible for You.//사랑하는 하나님, 제 문제가 커 보일 때 하나님이 그 문제보다 더 크시며 하나님이 못할 일이 없음을 기억할 수 있게 도와주소서. 특별히 지금 겪고 있는 나의 육신의 연약함도 하나님의 능력으로 강건케 해 주실 수 있음을 믿습니다. 모든 것이 하나님의 섭리 가운데 있음을 믿고 주님을 의지합니다. 주안에서 평강을 누리게 하소서.
