본문 : 로마서 12:3-8(Romans 12:3-8)
(롬 12:3) 내게 주신 은혜로 말미암아 너희 각 사람에게 말하노니 마땅히 생각할 그 이상의 생각을 품지 말고 오직 하나님께서 각 사람에게 나누어주신 믿음의 분량대로 지혜롭게 생각하라//For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think {of himself} more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
(롬 12:4) 우리가 한 몸에 많은 지체를 가졌으나 모든 지체가 같은 기능을 가진 것이 아니니//For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
(롬 12:5) 이와 같이 우리 많은 사람이 그리스도 안에서 한 몸이 되어 서로 지체가 되었느니라//So we, {being} many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
(롬 12:6) 우리에게 주신 은혜대로 받은 은사가 각각 다르니 혹 예언이면 믿음의 분수대로,//Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, {let us prophesy} according to the proportion of faith;
(롬 12:7) 혹 섬기는 일이면 섬기는 일로, 혹 가르치는 자면 가르치는 일로,//Or ministry, {let us wait} on {our} ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
(롬 12:8) 혹 위로하는 자면 위로하는 일로, 구제하는 자는 성실함으로, 다스리는 자는 부지런함으로, 긍휼을 베푸는 자는 즐거움으로 할 것이니라//Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, {let him do it} with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
(요절 : 로마서 12:4) 우리가 한 몸에 많은 지체를 가졌으나 모든 지체가 같은 기능을 가진 것이 아니니/We have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function.
Bison are made in such a way that their natural inclination is to look down; the design of their necks makes it difficult for them to look up. In contrast, giraffes are designed in a way that makes looking up easy; the way their necks were made makes it difficult for them to look down. Two creatures created by the same God but with distinctively different body parts and purposes. Giraffes eat leaves from branches above. Bison eat grass from the field below. God provides food for both, and neither has to become like the other to eat.
아메리카 들소는 그들의 자연적인 성향이 아래를 쳐다보도록 만들어졌다. 그들의 목에 대한 설계가 위로 쳐다보는 것을 힘들게 한다. 그와 대조적으로 기린은 위를 쳐다보기가 쉽도록 설계되었다. 그들의 목이 만들어진 빙식이 아래를 바라보기 힘들게 되어 있다. 동일한 하나님이 두 생물을 창조하셨지만 그들 신체의 부분들과 목적을 현저히 다르게 만드셨다. 기린은 위쪽에 있는 가지의 잎을 먹는다. 아메리카 들소는 들 아래에 있는 풀잎을 먹는다. 하나님은 그 둘에게 먹이를 공급하시지만, 먹는 것에 있어서 서로는 다른 편과 같이 될 수 없다.
As we observe the animals and people around us, we’re reminded that God made each of us unique for a purpose. One person’s natural tendency is to look up and see the “big picture,” while another looks down and focuses on details. Both are important. One is not better than the other. God gave us individual talents and spiritual gifts so that we can work together as a body.
우리 주변의 동물들이나 사람들을 바라보면, 하나님은 우리 각자를 목적상 유일하게 만드셨음을 알게 된다. 어떤 사람의 타고난 성향은 위를 향하여 "큰 그림"을 보는 것인 반면, 다른 어떤 사람은 아래를 향하여 세부적인 것에 초점을 맞춘다. 둘 다 중요하다. 어떤 하나가 다른 것보다 더 낫지 않다. 하나님은 우리에게 개인적인 재능과 영적인 은사를 주셔서 우리가 하나의 몸으로 함께 일할 수 있도록 하셨다.
Human beings are the crowning jewel of creation, and we shine the brightest not when we see our own likeness reflected in others but when each of us performs the unique functions that God designed for us to do. “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them” (Rom. 12:6). - Julie Ackerman Link
인간은 창조물 중 최상의 보석이며, 다른 사람에게서 반영되는 우리의 모습을 볼 때가 아니라, 우리가 어떤 일을 하도록 하나님이 설계하신 그 유일한 기능을 우리 각자가 수행할 때 우리는 가장 밝게 빛난다.
By God’s wise designing//하나님의 지혜로우신 설계에 의해
We are wonderfully made,//우리는 경이롭게 만들어졌다.
Every part essential//모든 부분이 필수적이며

There are no unimportant members in the body of Christ.//그리스도의 몸 안에는 중요하지 않은 구성원이 없습니다. 우리 눈으로 보기에는 불완전한 지체들도 하나님의 완전하신 작품입니다. 인간적으로는 불완전한 모습의 사람들도 하나님의 섭리 가운데는 완전한 존재입니다. 하나님이 옳다 하신 것을 우리가 그르다 할 수 없습니다. 하나님의 작품을 우리가 함부로 평가할 수 없습니다. 우리 모두는 태초에 하나님이 계획하셔서 지금 이 땅에 존재하게 한 하나님의 귀중한 보배입니다.
