IMITATE ME(2 THESSALONIANS 3:6-13)
(살후 3:6) 형제들아 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 너희를 명하노니 게으르게 행하고 우리에게서 받은 전통대로 행하지 아니하는 모든 형제에게서 떠나라//Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
(살후 3:7) 어떻게 우리를 본받아야 할지를 너희가 스스로 아나니 우리가 너희 가운데서 무질서하게 행하지 아니하며//For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
(살후 3:8) 누구에게서든지 음식을 값없이 먹지 않고 오직 수고하고 애써 주야로 일함은 너희 아무에게도 폐를 끼치지 아니하려 함이니//Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
(살후 3:9) 우리에게 권리가 없는 것이 아니요 오직 스스로 너희에게 본을 보여 우리를 본받게 하려 함이니라//Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.
(살후 3:10) 우리가 너희와 함께 있을 때에도 너희에게 명하기를 누구든지 일하기 싫어하거든 먹지도 말게 하라 하였더니//For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should eat.
(살후 3:11) 우리가 들은즉 너희 가운데 게으르게 행하여 도무지 일하지 아니하고 일을 만들기만 하는 자들이 있다 하니//For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
(살후 3:12) 이런 자들에게 우리가 명하고 주 예수 그리스도 안에서 권하기를 조용히 일하여 자기 양식을 먹으라 하노라//Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
(살후 3:13) 형제들아 너희는 선을 행하다가 낙심하지 말라//But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

As his daddy cast his fishing line out into the lake, two-year-old Thomas mimicked his father’s actions with his own toy fishing pole. Later, as he stood on the shallow edge of the lake, Thomas also tried imitating his father’s example of throwing fish back into the water by dipping his pole in the water and “catching” weeds. After each “catch,” Thomas held the weeds up for his daddy to admire before releasing them back into the lake.
아빠가 호수로 낚싯줄을 던지자 두 살 된 토마스도 자기 장난감 낚싯대로 아버지를 따라 했다. 나중에 토마스는 얕은 호수 가장자리에 서서 낚싯대를 물에 담그고 잡초를 “잡아” 물고기를 다시 놓아주는 아버지를 흉내냈다. 토마스는 매번 “잡은” 잡초를 들고 아빠에게 자랑하며 호수에 다시 넣어주었다.
We tend to learn - both what’s good and wholesome and what’s definitely not - through observing and imitating others. Perhaps that’s why in the New Testament, followers of Jesus are often encouraged to look to faithful servants of the gospel as role models (SEE 2 THESSALONIANS 3:9; HEBREWS 13:7; 3 JOHN 1:11).
우리는 대개 다른 사람을 관찰하고 따라 하면서 좋고 건전한 것과 그렇지 못한 것도 배운다. 아마도 그것이 신약 성경 여러 곳에서 예수님을 따르는 사람들에게 복음의 신실한 종들을 본받으라고 권고하는 이유일 것이다 (데살로니가후서 3:9 참조; 히브리서 13:7; 요한3서 1:11).
In 2 Thessalonians 3, Paul gave examples of behavior not to imitate (idle, disruptive, and meddling lifestyles; vv. 6, 11) and told his readers to imitate instead the examples of integrity found in him and the other leaders (VV. 7-10). And he encouraged them to “never tire of doing what is good” (V. 13).
데살로니가후서 3장에서 바울은 본받지 말아야 할 행동(게으르고, 분열을 일으키고, 참견하는 생활방식; 6, 11절)의 예를 들면서, 대신 자신과 다른 지도자들의 진실한 모습을 본받으라고 서신에 썼다(7-10절). 그는 이어서 “선을 행하다가 낙심하지 말라”(13절)고 격려했다.
But Paul knew that ultimately his example was only worth imitating insofar as it pointed to reliance on Christ (1 CORINTHIANS 11:1). Only by rooting our lives in Christ’s faith and power can we grow in grace and wisdom. ALYSON KIEDA
그러나 바울은 자신의 모범도 궁극적으로 그리스도께 의지하는 것만이 본받을 가치가 있다는 것을 잘 알았다(고린도전서 11:1). 오직 그리스도의 믿음과 능력 안에 우리 삶의 뿌리를 내릴 때에만 우리는 은혜와 지혜 안에서 자랄 수 있다.
