2024-06-23(일) 선한 사업을 많이 하고(디모데전서 6:6-10,17-19)
Rich in Good Deeds(1 Timothy 6:6-10,17-19)
(딤전 6:6) 그러나 자족하는 마음이 있으면 경건은 큰 이익이 되느니라//But godliness with contentment is great gain.
(딤전 6:7) 우리가 세상에 아무 것도 가지고 온 것이 없으매 또한 아무 것도 가지고 가지 못하리니//For we brought nothing into {this} world, {and it is} certain we can carry nothing out.
(딤전 6:8) 우리가 먹을 것과 입을 것이 있은즉 족한 줄로 알 것이니라//And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
(딤전 6:9) 부하려 하는 자들은 시험과 올무와 여러 가지 어리석고 해로운 욕심에 떨어지나니 곧 사람으로 파멸과 멸망에 빠지게 하는 것이라//But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and {into} many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
(딤전 6:10) 돈을 사랑함이 일만 악의 뿌리가 되나니 이것을 탐내는 자들은 미혹을 받아 믿음에서 떠나 많은 근심으로써 자기를 찔렀도다//For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
(딤전 6:17) 네가 이 세대에서 부한 자들을 명하여 마음을 높이지 말고 정함이 없는 재물에 소망을 두지 말고 오직 우리에게 모든 것을 후히 주사 누리게 하시는 하나님께 두며//Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
(딤전 6:18) 선을 행하고 선한 사업을 많이 하고 나누어 주기를 좋아하며 너그러운 자가 되게 하라//That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
(딤전 6:19) 이것이 장래에 자기를 위하여 좋은 터를 쌓아 참된 생명을 취하는 것이니라//Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
(요절: 디모데전서 6:18) 선을 행하고 선한 사업을 많이 하고 나누어 주기를 좋아하며 너그러운 자가 되게 하라//Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.[1 Timothy 6:18]
After seven decades of hard work as a washerwoman—scrubbing, drying, and pressing clothes by hand—Oseola McCarty was finally ready to retire at the age of eighty-six. She had scrupulously saved her meager earnings all those years, and to the amazement of her community, Oseola donated $150,000 to the nearby university to create a scholarship fund for needy students. Inspired by her selfless gift, hundreds of people donated enough to triple her endowment.
손으로 빨래를 문지르고 말리고 다림질하는 등 70년 동안 세탁부로 열심히 일한 오세올라 맥카티는 마침내 여든여섯의 나이로 은퇴할 준비를 마쳤다. 그 동안 적은 수입을 꼼꼼하게 저축해 온 오세올라는 지역 사회의 놀라움을 자아내며 불우한 학생들을 위한 장학 기금을 조성하기 위해 인근 대학에 15만 달러를 기부했다. 그녀의 이타적인 기부에 감명을 받은 수백 명의 사람들이 기부금을 세 배로 늘릴 만큼 기부했다.
Oseola understood the true value of her wealth was not in using it for her own gain, but to bless others. The apostle Paul exhorted Timothy to command those who are rich in this present world “to be rich in good deeds” (1 Timothy 6:18). Each of us has been given wealth to steward, whether it’s in the form of financial means or other resources. Instead of trusting in our resources, Paul cautions us to put our hope only in God (v. 17) and to lay up treasure in heaven by being “generous and willing to share” (v. 18).
오세올라는 부의 진정한 가치는 자신의 이익을 위해 사용하는 것이 아니라 다른 사람을 축복하는 데 있다는 것을 깨달았다. 사도 바울은 디모데에게 현세에서 부자가 된 사람들에게 “선한 사업을 많이 하라”(딤전 6:18)고 권면했다. 우리 각자에게는 금전적 수단이든 다른 자원이든 청지기로서 부를 받았다. 바울은 우리의 자원을 신뢰하는 대신 오직 하나님께만 소망을 두고(17절), “나누어 주기를 좋아하며”(18절) 하늘에 보물을 쌓으라고 충고한다.
In God’s economy, withholding and not being generous only leads to emptiness. Giving to others out of love is the way to fulfillment. To have both godliness and contentment with what we have, instead of striving for more, is great gain (v. 6). What would it look like for us to be generous with our resources, as Oseola was? 하나님의 경제에서는 움켜쥐고 관대하지 않으면 빈 것만 남는다. 사랑으로 다른 사람에게 베푸는 것이 채우는 길이다. 더 많은 것을 얻기 위해 노력하는 대신 경건함과 가진 것에 대한 만족을 동시에 갖는 것이 큰 이득이다(6절). 오세올라처럼 우리가 가진 자원에 관대해지는 것은 어떤 모습일까? 오늘도 하나님의 인도하심에 따라 선한 사업을 많이 하도록 노력하자.

Thank You for the resources I have, God. I surrender them to You today.//하나님, 제가 가진 자원에 감사드립니다. 오늘 그것들을 주님께 넘깁니다. 모든 것이 주께로부터 왔으니 주님의 선한 사업에 사용하소서. 가진 것을 누리는 것이 기쁨이 되지 말게 하시고 그것을 하나님의 사업에 하나님의 필요에 따라 사용하는 것을 기쁨으로 여기게 하소서.
