BUILT ON CHRIST(1 PETER 2:4-10)
(벧전 2:4) 사람에게는 버린 바가 되었으나 하나님께는 택하심을 입은 보배로운 산 돌이신 예수께 나아가//To whom coming, {as unto} a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, {and} precious,
(벧전 2:5) 너희도 산 돌 같이 신령한 집으로 세워지고 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 기쁘게 받으실 신령한 제사를 드릴 거룩한 제사장이 될지니라//Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
(벧전 2:6) 성경에 기록되었으되 보라 내가 택한 보배로운 모퉁잇돌을 시온에 두노니 그를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라 하였으니//Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
(벧전 2:7) 그러므로 믿는 너희에게는 보배이나 믿지 아니하는 자에게는 건축자들이 버린 그 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되고//Unto you therefore which believe {he is} precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
(벧전 2:8) 또한 부딪치는 돌과 걸려 넘어지게 하는 바위가 되었다 하였느니라 그들이 말씀을 순종하지 아니하므로 넘어지나니 이는 그들을 이렇게 정하신 것이라//And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, {even to them} which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
(벧전 2:9) 그러나 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유가 된 백성이니 이는 너희를 어두운 데서 불러 내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 이의 아름다운 덕을 선포하게 하려 하심이라//But ye {are} a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
(벧전 2:10) 너희가 전에는 백성이 아니더니 이제는 하나님의 백성이요 전에는 긍휼을 얻지 못하였더니 이제는 긍휼을 얻은 자니라//Which in time past {were} not a people, but {are} now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

We have all sorts of names for groups of animals. No doubt you’ve heard of a flock of sheep, a herd of cattle, or even a gaggle of geese. But some names may surprise you. A group of crows is called a murder. How about a congregation of alligators, or a crash of rhinoceroses? Have you heard of a building of rooks (Eurasian crows)?
영어에서 동물 무리에 대한 명칭은 다양하다. 양 ‘무리’(flock: 주로 털을 얻는 양이나 새의 무리 -역주), 소 ‘떼’(herd: 공통된 생김새나 습성을 지닌 짐승 무리 -역주), 혹은 거위 ‘떼’(gaggle: 시끌벅적한 무리 -역주)에 대해서는 많이 들어보았을 것이다. 하지만 몇몇 다른 명칭을 들어보면 놀랄지도 모른다. 까마귀 무리에 대해서는 ‘살인’(murder)을 사용한다. 악어 ‘회중’(congregation)이나 코뿔소 ‘굉음’(crash)은 어떤가? 띠까마귀(유라시아 까마귀) ‘집’(building)이라는 말을 들어본 적이 있는가?
Building, in fact, is one of the names in the Bible for believers in Jesus. “You are … God’s building,” wrote the apostle Paul (1 CORINTHIANS 3:9). There are other names for believers as well: “the flock” (ACTS 20:28), “the body of Christ” (1 CORINTHIANS 12:27), “brothers and sisters” (1 THESSALONIANS 2:14), and more.
사실 ‘집’은 성경에 나오는 예수님을 믿는 사람들을 칭하는 단어 중 하나이다. 바울 사도는 이렇게 썼다. “너희는… 하나님의 집이니라” (고린도전서 3:9). 성경에는 신자에 대한 다른 이름도 있다. “양떼”(사도행전 20:28), “그리스도의 몸”(고린도전서 12:27), “형제 자매”(데살로니가전서 2:14) 등 말이다.
The building metaphor recurs in 1 Peter 2:5, as Peter tells the church, “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house.” Then, in verse 6, Peter quotes Isaiah 28:16, “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone.” Jesus is the very foundation of His building.
베드로전서 2장 5절에서 베드로는 교회에 “너희도 산 돌 같이 신령한 집으로 세워졌다”고 말하면서 집의 비유를 반복한다. 그리고 6절에서 이사야 28장 16절 “보라 내가 한 돌을 시온에 두어 기초를 삼았노니”라고 인용한다. 예수님은 그 집의 기초가 되신다.
We may have the sense that it’s our job to build the church, but Jesus said, “I will build my church” (MATTHEW 16:18). We’re chosen by God to “declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 PETER 2:9). As we declare those praises, we become instruments in His hands as He does His good work. BILL CROWDER

What does it mean for Jesus to build His church? How can you participate in that work?
예수님이 교회를 세운다는 것은 무엇을 의미할까요? 여러분은 어떻게 그 일에 참여할 수 있을까요?
Dear God, forgive me for the times I think it’s all about me. Please use me to serve You and love others as You build Your church.//사랑하는 하나님, 나 자신만을 생각하는 그 순간들을 용서해 주세요. 주님의 교회를 세울 때 주님을 섬기고 다른 사람들을 사랑하도록 저를 사용해 주소서. 주님의 몸된 교회를 세우는 것이 우리 인간들이 아니라는 것을 항상 인식하게 하소서. 교회는 주님이 세우시는 것이고 우리는 그 중 하나의 벽돌이 되어 서로 이어져 가는 존재임을 자각하게 하소서. 옆의 벽돌이 내 옆에 놓인 것은 주님이 그렇게 하신 것임을 알고 그들과 잘 붙어있는 일을 내가 하게 하소서.
