GOD OF THE FRESH START(2 CHRONICLES 33:10-17)
(대하 33:10) 여호와께서 므낫세와 그의 백성에게 이르셨으나 그들이 듣지 아니하므로//And the Lord spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.
(대하 33:11) 여호와께서 앗수르 왕의 군대 지휘관들이 와서 치게 하시매 그들이 므낫세를 사로잡고 쇠사슬로 결박하여 바벨론으로 끌고 간지라//Wherefore the Lord brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.
(대하 33:12) 그가 환난을 당하여 그의 하나님 여호와께 간구하고 그의 조상들의 하나님 앞에 크게 겸손하여//And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
(대하 33:13) 기도하였으므로 하나님이 그의 기도를 받으시며 그의 간구를 들으시사 그가 예루살렘에 돌아와서 다시 왕위에 앉게 하시매 므낫세가 그제서야 여호와께서 하나님이신 줄을 알았더라//And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord he {was} God.
(대하 33:14) 그 후에 다윗 성 밖 기혼 서쪽 골짜기 안에 외성을 쌓되 어문 어귀까지 이르러 오벨을 둘러 매우 높이 쌓고 또 유다 모든 견고한 성읍에 군대 지휘관을 두며//Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.
(대하 33:15) 이방 신들과 여호와의 전의 우상을 제거하며 여호와의 전을 건축한 산에와 예루살렘에 쌓은 모든 제단들을 다 성 밖에 던지고//And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and cast {them} out of the city.
(대하 33:16) 여호와의 제단을 보수하고 화목제와 감사제를 그 제단 위에 드리고 유다를 명령하여 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 섬기라 하매//And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the Lord God of Israel.
(대하 33:17) 백성이 그의 하나님 여호와께만 제사를 드렸으나 아직도 산당에서 제사를 드렸더라//Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, {yet} unto the Lord their God only.
(요절: 역대하 33:13) 기도하였으므로 하나님이 그의 기도를 받으시며//When he prayed to him, the Lord was moved. [2 CHRONICLES 33:13]
“The Merchant of Death is Dead!” That was the headline for an obituary that may have caused Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, to make a course correction in his life. But the newspaper made a mistake - Alfred was very much alive. It was his brother Ludvig who had died. When Alfred realized he’d be remembered for a dangerous invention that claimed many lives, he decided to donate most of his significant wealth to establishing an award for those who had benefited humanity. It became known as the Nobel Prize.
“죽음을 파는 상인이 죽었다.” 이것은 한 신문의 부고 기사의 머리글 이었는데, 다이너마이트 발명자 알프레드 노벨의 인생을 바꾼 계기가 되었다. 그 기사는 오보였다. 알프레드는 아직 살아 있었고, 죽은 사람은 그의 형 루드빅이었다. 알프레드는 자신이 많은 생명을 앗아간 위험한 발명을 한 사람으로 기억될 것을 깨닫고, 인류에 공헌한 사람들을 위한 상을 제정하는데 자기 재산의 대부분을 기부하기로 결심했다. 그 상은 노벨상으로 알려지게 되었다.
More than two thousand years earlier, another powerful man had a change of heart. Manasseh, king of Judah, rebelled against God. As a result, he was taken captive to Babylon. But “in his distress he sought the favor of the Lord,” and “when he prayed,” God “brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom” (2 CHRONICLES 33:12-13). Manasseh spent the rest of his rule in peace, serving God and doing his best to undo the wrongs he’d done before.
2천년도 더 전에, 한 다른 강력한 사람도 마음의 변화를 겪었다. 하나님께 반항했던 유다 왕 므낫세는 그 결과 바벨론에 포로로 끌려갔다. 그러나 “그가 환난을 당하여 그의 하나님 여호와께 간구”하고 “기도하였으므로” 하나님이 “그가 예루살렘에 돌아와서 다시 왕위에 앉게 하셨다”(역대하 33:12-13). 므낫세는 남은 통치 기간을 평화롭게 보내며, 하나님을 섬기면서 이전에 저지른 잘못을 되돌리려고 최선을 다했다.
“The Lord was moved” by Manasseh’s prayer (V. 13). God responds to humility. When we realize we need to make a change in the way we’re living and turn to Him, He never turns us away. He meets us with grace we don’t deserve and renews us with the self-giving love He poured out at the cross. New beginnings begin with Him. JAMES BANKS
므낫세의 기도를 “하나님이 받으셨다”(13절). 하나님은 겸손히 간구할 때 응답하신다. 우리가 삶의 방식을 바꿔야 할 필요를 느끼고 하나님께로 향할 때, 하나님은 결코 우리를 내치지 않으신다. 하나님은 우리가 받을 자격이 없음에도 은혜를 베푸시며, 십자가에서 부어 주신 자신을 내주는 사랑으로 우리를 새롭게 해 주신다. 하나님과 함께 시작하는 새로운 출발이다.

Forgiving Father, thank You that You’ll never turn me away. Please help me to turn to You with all my heart in all I do today.//용서의 하나님, 절대 저를 외면하지 않으실 것에 감사드립니다. 오늘 제가 무슨 일을 하든 온 마음을 다해 하나님께로 향할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 주님의 인도하심을 온전히 따르게 하시고, 가끔은 나를 돌아보아 수정할 것이 있는지 보게 하시고, 나의 허점을 발견하는 지혜를 허락하소서. 주님이 주시는 조그만 신호도 놓치지 않게 하소서.
