SALTY ANSWERS(1 PETER 3:15-16)
(벧전 3:15) 너희 마음에 그리스도를 주로 삼아 거룩하게 하고 너희 속에 있는 소망에 관한 이유를 묻는 자에게는 대답할 것을 항상 준비하되 온유와 두려움으로 하고//But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and {be} ready always to {give} an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
(벧전 3:16) 선한 양심을 가지라 이는 그리스도 안에 있는 너희의 선행을 욕하는 자들로 그 비방하는 일에 부끄러움을 당하게 하려 함이라//Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
(요절: 골로새서 4:6) 너희 말을 항상 은혜 가운데서 소금으로 맛을 냄과 같이 하라 그리하면 각 사람에게 마땅히 대답할 것을 알리라//Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. [COLOSSIANS 4:6]
Bert placed his debit card atop the restaurant bill. The waiter scooped it up and then paused to ask, “Wait, who is this guy who says, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life?’ That’s so conceited!” Bert realized the waiter was reacting to the words printed on the card by his Christian financial company-Jesus’ words from John 14:6. Amused at the waiter’s response, Bert explained the identity of “this guy” and His sacrificial offering to bring us to God.

When we encounter people who know nothing about our faith, we might respond with ridicule or even judgment. But the apostle Peter challenged us, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 PETER 3:15). Then he warned, “Do this with gentleness and respect” (V. 15). In Colossians 4:6, Paul explained the power of such a response, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Just as salt on our food enhances flavor, salty answers invite others to come closer to faith.
우리의 믿음에 대해 전혀 모르는 사람을 만날 때 우리는 비웃거나 심지어 비판하는 마음으로 반응할 수 있다. 하지만 베드로 사도는 “너희 속에 있는 소망에 관한 이유를 묻는 자에게는 대답할 것을 항상 준비하라”(베드로전서 3:15)고 우리에게 요구하면서, 그것을 “온유와 두려움으로 하라”(15절)고 경고한다. 골로새서 4장 6절에서 바울은 그렇게 반응할 때 나타나는 능력을 다음과 같이 설명한다. “너희 말을 항상 은혜 가운데서 소금으로 맛을 냄과 같이 하라 그리하면 각 사람에게 마땅히 대답할 것을 알리라.” 소금이 음식에 맛을 더하듯, 소금 같은 대답은 다른 사람들이 믿음에 더 가까이 가도록 인도한다.

예수님에 대해 아무것도 모르는 사람들이 뜻밖의 상황에서 질문을 해올 수 있다. 우리가 온유함과 은혜로 대답할 때, 우리의 답변은 묻는 사람들이 더 알고 싶도록 이끄는 소금과 같은 역할을 하게 된다.
