DELIVERING HELP(1 SAMUEL 17:17-26, 32)
(삼상 17:17) 이새가 그의 아들 다윗에게 이르되 지금 네 형들을 위하여 이 볶은 곡식 한 에바와 이 떡 열 덩이를 가지고 진영으로 속히 가서 네 형들에게 주고//And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched {corn}, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;
(삼상 17:18) 이 치즈 열 덩이를 가져다가 그들의 천부장에게 주고 네 형들의 안부를 살피고 증표를 가져오라//And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of {their} thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.
(삼상 17:19) 그 때에 사울과 그들과 이스라엘 모든 사람들은 엘라 골짜기에서 블레셋 사람들과 싸우는 중이더라//Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, {were} in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
(삼상 17:20) 다윗이 아침에 일찍이 일어나서 양을 양 지키는 자에게 맡기고 이새가 명령한 대로 가지고 가서 진영에 이른즉 마침 군대가 전장에 나와서 싸우려고 고함치며,//And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.
(삼상 17:21) 이스라엘과 블레셋 사람들이 전열을 벌이고 양군이 서로 대치하였더라//For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.
(삼상 17:22) 다윗이 자기의 짐을 짐 지키는 자의 손에 맡기고 군대로 달려가서 형들에게 문안하고//And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
(삼상 17:23) 그들과 함께 말할 때에 마침 블레셋 사람의 싸움 돋우는 가드 사람 골리앗이라 하는 자가 그 전열에서 나와서 전과 같은 말을 하매 다윗이 들으니라//And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard {them}.
(삼상 17:24) 이스라엘 모든 사람이 그 사람을 보고 심히 두려워하여 그 앞에서 도망하며//And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
(삼상 17:25) 이스라엘 사람들이 이르되 너희가 이 올라 온 사람을 보았느냐 참으로 이스라엘을 모욕하러 왔도다 그를 죽이는 사람은 왕이 많은 재물로 부하게 하고 그의 딸을 그에게 주고 그 아버지의 집을 이스라엘 중에서 세금을 면제하게 하시리라//And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, {that} the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
(삼상 17:26) 다윗이 곁에 서 있는 사람들에게 말하여 이르되 이 블레셋 사람을 죽여 이스라엘의 치욕을 제거하는 사람에게는 어떠한 대우를 하겠느냐 이 할례 받지 않은 블레셋 사람이 누구이기에 살아 계시는 하나님의 군대를 모욕하겠느냐//And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who {is} this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
(삼상 17:32) 다윗이 사울에게 말하되 그로 말미암아 사람이 낙담하지 말 것이라 주의 종이 가서 저 블레셋 사람과 싸우리이다 하니//And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

When Heather’s job took her to Tim’s house to deliver his take-out meal, he asked her to help him untie the knot in the food bag. Tim had suffered a stroke a few years prior and no longer had the ability to untie the knot himself. Heather cheerfully obliged. Throughout the rest of her day, Heather’s thoughts returned to Tim frequently and she was inspired to assemble a care package for him. When Tim later found the hot cocoa and red blanket she’d left at his door with an encouraging note, he was moved to tears.
헤더가 팀의 집으로 주문 음식을 배달하러 갔을 때 팀은 포장된 음식 가방의 매듭을 풀어 달라고 부탁했다. 팀은 몇 년 전에 뇌졸중을 앓아 더 이상 혼자서 매듭을 풀 수 없었던 것이다. 헤더는 기쁜 마음으로 도와주었다. 헤더는 그날 내내 팀을 자주 떠올리면서 그를 돕기 위해 무언가를 준비해야겠다고 생각했다. 나중에 헤더가 문 앞에 격려의 글과 함께 따뜻한 코코아와 빨간 담요를 두고 간 것을 팀이 발견하고는 감격의 눈물을 흘렸다.
Heather’s delivery became much more significant than she originally anticipated. The same was true when Jesse sent his young son David to supply his brothers with food when the Israelites “drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines” (1 SAMUEL 17:2). When David arrived with the bread and cheese, he learned Goliath had been instilling fear in God’s people with his daily taunting (VV. 8-10, 16, 24). David was incensed by Goliath’s defiance of “the armies of the living God” (V. 26) and was moved to respond, saying to King Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him” (V. 32).
헤더의 배달은 그가 원래 예상했던 것보다 훨씬 더 의미 있는 일이 되었다. 이스라엘 백성들이 “블레셋 사람들을 대하여 전열을 벌였을” (사무엘상 17:2) 때, 이새가 어린 아들 다윗을 보내어 그의 형들에게 음식을 전해주었을 때에도 마찬가지였다. 다윗이 빵과 치즈를 가지고 도착해 보니 골리앗이 매일 조롱하며 하나님의 백성들에게 두려움을 심어주고 있다는 것을 알게 되었다(8-10, 16, 24절). 다윗은 골리앗이 “살아 계시는 하나님의 군대”(26절)에 대적하는 모습에 분노하여 사울 왕에게 말했다. “그로 말미암아 사람이 낙담하지 말 것이라 주의 종이 가서 저 블레셋 사람과 싸우리이다”(32절).
