SAYING YES BY FAITH(NUMBERS 13:27-14:9)
(민 13:27) 모세에게 말하여 이르되 당신이 우리를 보낸 땅에 간즉 과연 그 땅에 젖과 꿀이 흐르는데 이것은 그 땅의 과일이니이다//And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this {is} the fruit of it.
(민 13:28) 그러나 그 땅 거주민은 강하고 성읍은 견고하고 심히 클 뿐 아니라 거기서 아낙 자손을 보았으며//Nevertheless the people {be} strong that dwell in the land, and the cities {are} walled, {and} very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
(민 13:29) 아말렉인은 남방 땅에 거주하고 헷인과 여부스인과 아모리인은 산지에 거주하고 가나안인은 해변과 요단 가에 거주하더이다//The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
(민 13:30) 갈렙이 모세 앞에서 백성을 조용하게 하고 이르되 우리가 곧 올라가서 그 땅을 취하자 능히 이기리라 하나//And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
(민 13:31) 그와 함께 올라갔던 사람들은 이르되 우리는 능히 올라가서 그 백성을 치지 못하리라 그들은 우리보다 강하니라 하고//But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they {are} stronger than we.
(민 13:32) 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 그 정탐한 땅을 악평하여 이르되 우리가 두루 다니며 정탐한 땅은 그 거주민을 삼키는 땅이요 거기서 본 모든 백성은 신장이 장대한 자들이며//And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, {is} a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it {are} men of a great stature.
(민 13:33) 거기서 네피림 후손인 아낙 자손의 거인들을 보았나니 우리는 스스로 보기에도 메뚜기 같으니 그들이 보기에도 그와 같았을 것이니라//And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, {which come} of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
(민 14:1) 온 회중이 소리를 높여 부르짖으며 백성이 밤새도록 통곡하였더라//And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
(민 14:2) 이스라엘 자손이 다 모세와 아론을 원망하며 온 회중이 그들에게 이르되 우리가 애굽 땅에서 죽었거나 이 광야에서 죽었으면 좋았을 것을//And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
(민 14:3) 어찌하여 여호와가 우리를 그 땅으로 인도하여 칼에 쓰러지게 하려 하는가 우리 처자가 사로잡히리니 애굽으로 돌아가는 것이 낫지 아니하랴//And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
(민 14:4) 이에 서로 말하되 우리가 한 지휘관을 세우고 애굽으로 돌아가자 하매//And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
(민 14:5) 모세와 아론이 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중 앞에서 엎드린지라//Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
(민 14:6) 그 땅을 정탐한 자 중 눈의 아들 여호수아와 여분네의 아들 갈렙이 자기들의 옷을 찢고//And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, {which were} of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
(민 14:7) 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중에게 말하여 이르되 우리가 두루 다니며 정탐한 땅은 심히 아름다운 땅이라//And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, {is} an exceeding good land.
(민 14:8) 여호와께서 우리를 기뻐하시면 우리를 그 땅으로 인도하여 들이시고 그 땅을 우리에게 주시리라 이는 과연 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅이니라//If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
(민 14:9) 다만 여호와를 거역하지는 말라 또 그 땅 백성을 두려워하지 말라 그들은 우리의 먹이라 그들의 보호자는 그들에게서 떠났고 여호와는 우리와 함께 하시느니라 그들을 두려워하지 말라 하나//Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they {are} bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord {is} with us: fear them not.
(요절: 민수기 14:9) 여호와는 우리와 함께 하시느니라//The Lord is with us. [NUMBERS 14:9]
When asked if I’d accept a new responsibility at work, I wanted to say no. I thought of the challenges and felt inadequate to handle them. But as I prayed and sought guidance from the Bible and other believers, I realized God was calling me to say yes. Through the Scriptures, I was also reassured of His help. So, I accepted the task, but still with some dread.
직장에서 새로운 일을 맡을 수 있느냐는 질문에 나는 못한다고 말하려 했다. 당면할 어려움을 생각해 보니 감당하기에 힘들 거라고 느껴진 것이다. 그러나 성경과 믿는 사람들의 도움과 기도를 통해 하나님께서 이 기회를 받아들이라고 말씀하시는 것을 느꼈다. 또한 성경말씀을 읽으면서 하나님께서 도와주신다는 확신이 생겼다. 그래서 그 일을 수락했는데, 그래도 조금의 염려는 남아있었다.
I see myself in the Israelites and the ten spies who recoiled from occupying Canaan (NUMBERS 13:27-29, 31-33; 14:1-4). They too saw the difficulties, wondering how they could defeat the powerful people in the land and subdue their fortified cities. “We seemed like grasshoppers,” the spies said (13:33), and the Israelites grumbled, “Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword?” (14:3).
가나안 주민들에 대한 이야기를 듣고 두려웠던 이스라엘 백성들과 열 명의 정탐꾼(민수기 13:27-29, 31-33; 14:1-4)의 모습이 나와 비슷했다. 그들도 어떻게 그 땅의 강한 백성을 물리치고 견고한 성읍을 무너뜨릴 수 있을지 하는 염려를 했다. 정탐꾼들이 “우리는 스스로 보기에도 메뚜기 같다”(13:33)고 했고, 이스라엘 백성은 “어찌하여 여호와가 우리를 그 땅으로 인도하여 칼에 쓰러지게 하려 하는가”(14:3)하며 원망했다.
Only Caleb and Joshua remembered that God had already promised He’d give Canaan to His people (GENESIS 17:8; NUMBERS 13:2). They drew confidence from His promise, seeing the difficulties ahead in the light of God’s presence and help. They’d face the difficulties with His power, protection, and resources, not their own (NUMBERS 14:6-9).
다만 갈렙과 여호수아만이 하나님께서 가나안을 그들 백성에게 주시겠다고 하셨던 약속을 기억했다(창세기 17:8; 민수기13:2). 그들은 하나님의 약속에서 자신감을 얻었다. 하나님이 함께하시고 도우신다는 것을 믿고서 앞에 놓인 어려움을 바라본 것이다. 그들은 자신의 것이 아닌 하나님의 능력과 보호하심과 공급하심으로 어려움을 마주할 수가 있었다 (민수기 14:6-9).
The task God gave me wasn’t easy - but He helped me through it. While we won’t always be spared difficulties in His assignments, we can - like Caleb and Joshua - face them knowing, “The Lord is with us” (V. 9). KAREN HUANG
하나님께서 내게 주신 일이 쉽지는 않았지만 그의 도우심으로 잘 해낼 수가 있었다. 우리는 그분이 주시는 일들을 맡아서 할 때에 모든 어려움을 피할 수는 없어도, “여호와는 우리와 함께 하시느니라”(9절)고 했던 갈렙과 여호수아의 말을 기억하며 어려움을 마주할 수 있다.

Dear God, please help me to follow You wholeheartedly.//사랑하는 하나님, 전심으로 주님을 따르게 하소서. 무슨 일을 만나도 나의 경험적 시각으로 보지 않게 하시고 하나님이 말씀하시는 바가 무엇인지를 먼저 생각하게 하소서. 나의 능력이 아니라 하나님의 능력으로 감당하는 믿음을 주시고, 하나님 나라의 유익을 먼저 생각하게 하소서.
