CLOTHED IN CHRIST(ROMANS 13:11-14)
(롬 13:11) 또한 너희가 이 시기를 알거니와 자다가 깰 때가 벌써 되었으니 이는 이제 우리의 구원이 처음 믿을 때보다 가까웠음이라//And that, knowing the time, that now {it is} high time to awake out of sleep: for now {is} our salvation nearer than when we believed.
(롬 13:12) 밤이 깊고 낮이 가까웠으니 그러므로 우리가 어둠의 일을 벗고 빛의 갑옷을 입자//The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
(롬 13:13) 낮에와 같이 단정히 행하고 방탕하거나 술 취하지 말며 음란하거나 호색하지 말며 다투거나 시기하지 말고//Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
(롬 13:14) 오직 주 예수 그리스도로 옷 입고 정욕을 위하여 육신의 일을 도모하지 말라//But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to {fulfil} the lusts {thereof}.
(요절: 로마서 13:12) 우리가 어두움의 일을 벗고 빛의 갑옷을 입자//Let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. [ ROMANS 13:12 ]
I was so excited to put on my new glasses for the first time, but after just a few hours I wanted to throw them away. My eyes ached and head throbbed from adjusting to the new prescription. My ears were sore from the unfamiliar frames. The next day I groaned when I remembered I had to wear them. I had to repeatedly choose to use my glasses each day in order for my body to adjust. It took several weeks, but after that, I hardly noticed I was wearing them.
안경을 새로 맞춰 신이 났던 나는 몇 시간도 되지 않아 벗어버리고 싶어졌다. 달라진 안경 도수에 적응하느라 눈도 아프고 두통이 생겼기 때문이다. 안경테가 익숙하지 않아 귀도 아팠다. 다음 날이 되어 안경을 또 써야 한다는 생각에 괴로웠다. 내 몸이 안경에 적응하도록 잊지 않고 매일 안경을 써야 했다. 그렇게 몇 주가 지났다. 이제는 안경을 쓰고 있는지도 모르고 지내게 되었다.
Putting on something new requires an adjustment, but over time we grow into it, and it suits us better. We may even see things we didn’t see before. In Romans 13, the apostle Paul instructed Christ followers to “put on the armor of light” (V. 12) and practice right living. They had already believed in Jesus, but it seems they had fallen into “slumber” and become more complacent; they needed to “wake up” and take action, behave decently and let go of all sin (VV. 11-13). Paul encouraged them to be clothed with Jesus and become more like Him in their thoughts and deeds (V. 14).
무언가 새로운 것을 착용하려면 적응이 필요하지만 시간이 흐르면서 익숙해져 잘 맞게 된다. 그리고 전에 보지 못했던 것을 보게 될 수도 있다. 로마서 13장에서 바울 사도는 그리스도를 따르는 자들에게 “빛의 갑옷을 입고”(12절) 바른 삶을 살라고 당부했다. 그들은 이미 예수님을 믿기는 했어도 “졸음”에 빠진 듯 현실에 안주하는 모습이었다. 그들은 “일어나” 움직이고, 단정히 행하며, 모든 죄를 멀리 해야 했다(11-13절). 바울은 사람들에게 예수님으로 옷 입고 생각과 행동에서 주님을 닮아가라고 권면했다(14절).
We don’t begin to reflect the loving, gentle, kind, grace-filled, and faithful ways of Jesus overnight. It’s a long process of choosing to “put on the armor of light” every day, even when we don’t want to because it’s uncomfortable. Over time, He changes us for the better. KAREN PIMPO
우리는 예수님과 같은 사랑과 온유와 친절과 은혜와 믿음을 하루 만에 보여줄 수는 없다. 이것은 불편하여 내키지 않더라도 매일같이 “빛의 갑옷을 입는” 선택을 해 나가야 하는 긴 과정이다. 그러면 시간이 흐르면서 예수님이 우리를 더 나은 쪽으로 변화시켜 주신다.
What does it look like to “put on” Jesus today? How does practicing Christlikeness become more comfortable over time?
오늘 예수님으로 “옷 입으면” 어떤 모습이 될까요? 어떻게 하면 예수님처럼 사는 것이 점점 더 편해지게 될까요?
Dear Jesus, thank You that You’re transforming me day by day.//사랑하는 예수님, 매일 매일 저를 변화시켜 주시니 감사합니다. 조금씩이라도 주님을 닮아가며 주님처럼 생각하고 행동하게 도우소서. 더 온유하고 더 오래 참으며 더 돌아보게 하소서. 나보다 남을 낫게 여기고, 이전에 익숙했던 것들도 다시 돌아보게 하소서. 무엇이 최선인지를 따져보게 하소서.
