HELPING AS GOD HELPS US(ISAIAH 58:6-12)
(사 58:6) 내가 기뻐하는 금식은 흉악의 결박을 풀어 주며 멍에의 줄을 끌러 주며 압제 당하는 자를 자유하게 하며 모든 멍에를 꺾는 것이 아니겠느냐//{Is} not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
(사 58:7) 또 주린 자에게 네 양식을 나누어 주며 유리하는 빈민을 집에 들이며 헐벗은 자를 보면 입히며 또 네 골육을 피하여 스스로 숨지 아니하는 것이 아니겠느냐//{Is it} not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
(사 58:8) 그리하면 네 빛이 새벽 같이 비칠 것이며 네 치유가 급속할 것이며 네 공의가 네 앞에 행하고 여호와의 영광이 네 뒤에 호위하리니//Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward.
(사 58:9) 네가 부를 때에는 나 여호와가 응답하겠고 네가 부르짖을 때에는 내가 여기 있다 하리라 만일 네가 너희 중에서 멍에와 손가락질과 허망한 말을 제하여 버리고//Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I {am}. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
(사 58:10) 주린 자에게 네 심정이 동하며 괴로워하는 자의 심정을 만족하게 하면 네 빛이 흑암 중에서 떠올라 네 어둠이 낮과 같이 될 것이며//And {if} thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness {be} as the noonday:
(사 58:11) 여호와가 너를 항상 인도하여 메마른 곳에서도 네 영혼을 만족하게 하며 네 뼈를 견고하게 하리니 너는 물 댄 동산 같겠고 물이 끊어지지 아니하는 샘 같을 것이라//And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
(사 58:12) 네게서 날 자들이 오래 황폐된 곳들을 다시 세울 것이며 너는 역대의 파괴된 기초를 쌓으리니 너를 일컬어 무너진 데를 보수하는 자라 할 것이며 길을 수축하여 거할 곳이 되게 하는 자라 하리라//And {they that shall be} of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

Ole Kassow of Copenhagen loved bicycling. One morning, when he saw an elderly man sitting alone with his walker in a park, Ole felt inspired by a simple idea: why not offer elderly people the joy and freedom of a bike ride. So, one sunny day he stopped at a nursing home with a rented trishaw (a three-wheeled bike) and offered a ride to anyone there. He was delighted when a staff member and an elderly resident became the first riders of Cycling Without Age.
코펜하겐에 사는 올레 카소는 자전거타기를 좋아했다. 어느 날 아침 공원에서 한 노인이 보행보조기 옆에 혼자 앉아 있는 것을 보고, 올레는 노인들에게 자전거타기의 즐거움과 자유를 드리면 어떨까 하는 생각이 들었다. 그래서 어느 화창한 날, 그는 3륜 자전거 한 대를 빌려 요양원으로 가서 누구든 태워주겠다고 제안했다. 한 요양원 직원과 거주하는 노인 한 사람이 ‘연령 제한없는 사이클링’의 첫번째 승객이 되자 그는 매우 기뻤다.
Now, more than twenty years later, Ole’s dream to help those who miss cycling has blessed some 575,000 elderly people with 2.5 million rides. Where? To see a friend, enjoy an ice cream cone, and “feel the wind in their hair.” Participants say they sleep better, eat better, and feel less lonely.
20년도 더 지난 지금, 사이클링을 원했던 사람들을 돕고자 한 올레의 꿈은 약 57만 5천명의 노인들에게 2천 5백만번의 자전거 타는 기쁨을 선사했다. 어디로 태워다 주었냐고? 친구를 만나고, 아이스크림을 먹으며, “바람에 머리카락이 휘날리는” 그런 곳들이다. 참여했던 사람들은 더 잘 자고, 더 잘 먹고, 덜 외롭다고 말한다.
Such a gift brings to life God’s beautiful words to His people in Isaiah 58:10-11. “Help those in trouble,” He told them. “Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.” God promised, “The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring” (NLT).
그 같은 은사는 하나님이 이사야 58:10-11에서 그의 백성들에게 하신 아름다운 말씀을 살아 숨 쉬게 한다. 하나님은 “괴로워하는 자의 심정을 만족하게 하면 네 빛이 흑암 중에서 떠올라 네 어둠이 낮과 같이 될 것이라”고 말씀하시고, “여호와가 너를 항상 인도하여 메마른 곳에서도 네 영혼을 만족하게 하며 너는 물 댄 동산 같겠고 물이 끊어지지 아니하는 샘 같을 것이라”고 약속하셨다.
God told His people, “Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities” (V. 12 NLT). What might He do through us? As He helps us, may we always be ready to help others. PATRICIA RAYBON
하나님은 그의 백성들에게 “너희 자손들이 오랫동안 폐허가 된 곳을 재건하리라”(12절, 현대인의 성경)고 말씀하셨다. 하나님은 우리를 통해 무엇을 하실 수 있을까? 하나님께서 우리를 도와주시듯, 우리도 항상 다른 사람들을 도울 준비가 되어 있기를 바란다.

Dear God, please show me a simple way to help others so they can find life in You.//사랑하는 하나님, 사람들이 하나님 안에서 생명을 찾을 수 있도록 그들을 도울 한 간단한 방법을 보여주소서. 이미 나에게 허락하신 모든 수단들을 동원하여 그들을 섬기게 하소서. 나에게 있는 달란트를 사용하여 내가 도울 수 있는 모든 일들이 생각나게 하시고, 나의 손길을 요청할 때 그것을 감당할 수 있는 시간과 여건과 물질(수단)을 허락하소서.
