GOD’S GREATER POWER(JUDGES 7:7-8, 16-22)
(삿 7:7) 여호와께서 기드온에게 이르시되 내가 이 물을 핥아 먹은 삼백 명으로 너희를 구원하며 미디안을 네 손에 넘겨 주리니 남은 백성은 각각 자기의 처소로 돌아갈 것이니라 하시니//And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the {other} people go every man unto his place.
(삿 7:8) 이에 백성이 양식과 나팔을 손에 든지라 기드온이 이스라엘 모든 백성을 각각 그의 장막으로 돌려보내고 그 삼백 명은 머물게 하니라 미디안 진영은 그 아래 골짜기 가운데에 있었더라//So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all {the rest of} Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
(삿 7:16) 삼백 명을 세 대로 나누어 각 손에 나팔과 빈 항아리를 들리고 항아리 안에는 횃불을 감추게 하고//And he divided the three hundred men {into} three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
(삿 7:17) 그들에게 이르되 너희는 나만 보고 내가 하는 대로 하되 내가 그 진영 근처에 이르러서 내가 하는 대로 너희도 그리하여//And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be {that}, as I do, so shall ye do.
(삿 7:18) 나와 나를 따르는 자가 다 나팔을 불거든 너희도 모든 진영 주위에서 나팔을 불며 이르기를 여호와를 위하라, 기드온을 위하라 하라 하니라//When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that {are} with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, {The sword} of the Lord, and of Gideon.
(삿 7:19) 기드온과 그와 함께 한 백 명이 이경 초에 진영 근처에 이른즉 바로 파수꾼들을 교대한 때라 그들이 나팔을 불며 손에 가졌던 항아리를 부수니라//So Gideon, and the hundred men that {were} with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that {were} in their hands.
(삿 7:20) 세 대가 나팔을 불며 항아리를 부수고 왼손에 횃불을 들고 오른손에 나팔을 들어 불며 외쳐 이르되 여호와와 기드온의 칼이다 하고//And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow {withal}: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.
(삿 7:21) 각기 제자리에 서서 그 진영을 에워싸매 그 온 진영의 군사들이 뛰고 부르짖으며 도망하였는데//And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.
(삿 7:22) 삼백 명이 나팔을 불 때에 여호와께서 그 온 진영에서 친구끼리 칼로 치게 하시므로 적군이 도망하여 스레라의 벧 싯다에 이르고 또 답밧에 가까운 아벨므홀라의 경계에 이르렀으며//And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the Lord set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, {and} to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath.

In March 1945, the “Ghost Army” helped US forces achieve the Rhine River crossing - giving the allies a vital base to operate from on World War II’s Western Front. The soldiers were most definitely human, not apparitions, all part of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops. On this occasion, the 1,100-man team imitated 30,000 men by using inflatable decoy tanks, blasting troop and vehicle sound effects over speakers, and more. The relatively small number of Ghost Army members led the enemy to fear what appeared to be a far greater force.
1945년 3월, 미군은 “유령 군대”의 도움을 받아 라인 강 도하작전을 성공적으로 완수하여, 제2차 세계대전 때 서부전선에서 작전 수행에 중요한 기지를 동맹국들에게 제공했다. 유령 군대의 군인들은 물론 유령이 아니라 실제 사람으로, 23 사령부 특수부대원들이었다. 그 때 1,100 명으로 구성된 부대는 모형 탱크 풍선을 사용하고 스피커를 통해 떠들썩한 병력과 차량의 음향 효과를 방송하는 것 등을 통해 30,000명의 부대처럼 보이게 만들었다. 상대적으로 적은 수의 유령 군대 병력들을 훨씬 더 큰 군대처럼 보이게 만들어 적군을 두렵게 한 것이다.
The Midianites and their allies also trembled before a tiny army that loomed large in the night (JUDGES 7:8-22). Gideon, a judge and military leader of Israel, was used by God to make his puny army a source of terror for the enemy. They also used sound effects (blown trumpets, smashed clay jars, human voices) and visible objects (blazing torches) to make the vast enemy - as “thick as locusts” (V. 12) - believe they were facing a colossal foe. Israel defeated their enemy that night with an army whittled down from 32,000 men to just 300 by God’s command (VV. 2-8). Why? Because that made it clear who truly won the battle. As God told Gideon, “I have given you victory over them!” (V. 9 NLT).
미디안 사람들과 그들의 동맹군도 마찬가지로 어두운밤에 크게 투영되어 보이는 아주 작은 군대 앞에서 두려움에 떨었다(사사기 7:8-22). 하나님은 이스라엘의 사사이자 군대 지도자인 기드온을 사용하여 그의 보잘것없는 군대로 적군에게 공포가 되게 하셨다. 그들도 음향 효과(나팔소리, 질그릇을 부수는 소리, 사람 목소리)와 눈에 보이는 물체(불타는 횃불)를 사용하여 “메뚜기의 많은 수와 같은”(12절) 어마어마한 적군들로 하여금 엄청난 적군을 상대한다고 믿게 만들었다. 하나님의 명령으로 32,000명에서 300명 밖에 남지 않았던 이스라엘 군대는 그날 밤 적군을 물리쳤다(2-8절). 왜 그렇게 하셨을까? 그렇게 함으로써 그 전쟁에서 진정 승리한 이가 누구인지 분명해졌기 때문이다. 하나님은 “내가 그들을 너의 손에 넘겨 주겠다”(9절, 새번역)고 기드온에게 말씀하셨다.
When we feel weak and inferior, let’s seek God and rest in His strength alone. For His “power is made perfect in [our] weakness” (2 CORINTHIANS 12:9). TOM FELTEN
우리가 연약하고 부족하다고 느낄 때 하나님을 찾아 오직 그분의 능력 안에서 안식하도록 하자. 하나님의 “능력은 (우리가) 약한 데서 완전해지기” (고린도후서 12:9, 현대인의 성경) 때문이다.
