A HEART FOR CHRIST(MATTHEW 15:7-20)
(마 15:7) 외식하는 자들아 이사야가 너희에 관하여 잘 예언하였도다 일렀으되//{Ye} hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
(마 15:8) 이 백성이 입술로는 나를 공경하되 마음은 내게서 멀도다//This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with {their} lips; but their heart is far from me.
(마 15:9) 사람의 계명으로 교훈을 삼아 가르치니 나를 헛되이 경배하는도다 하였느니라 하시고//But in vain they do worship me, teaching {for} doctrines the commandments of men.
(마 15:10) 무리를 불러 이르시되 듣고 깨달으라//And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
(마 15:11) 입으로 들어가는 것이 사람을 더럽게 하는 것이 아니라 입에서 나오는 그것이 사람을 더럽게 하는 것이니라//Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
(마 15:12) 이에 제자들이 나아와 이르되 바리새인들이 이 말씀을 듣고 걸림이 된 줄 아시나이까//Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
(마 15:13) 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 심은 것마다 내 하늘 아버지께서 심으시지 않은 것은 뽑힐 것이니//But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
(마 15:14) 그냥 두라 그들은 맹인이 되어 맹인을 인도하는 자로다 만일 맹인이 맹인을 인도하면 둘이 다 구덩이에 빠지리라 하시니//Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
(마 15:15) 베드로가 대답하여 이르되 이 비유를 우리에게 설명하여 주옵소서//Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
(마 15:16) 예수께서 이르시되 너희도 아직까지 깨달음이 없느냐//And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
(마 15:17) 입으로 들어가는 모든 것은 배로 들어가서 뒤로 내버려지는 줄 알지 못하느냐//Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
(마 15:18) 입에서 나오는 것들은 마음에서 나오나니 이것이야말로 사람을 더럽게 하느니라//But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
(마 15:19) 마음에서 나오는 것은 악한 생각과 살인과 간음과 음란과 도둑질과 거짓 증언과 비방이니//For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
(마 15:20) 이런 것들이 사람을 더럽게 하는 것이요 씻지 않은 손으로 먹는 것은 사람을 더럽게 하지 못하느니라//These are {the things} which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

As long as you keep your mouth closed, I told myself, you won’t be doing anything wrong. I’d been outwardly holding back my anger toward a colleague after misinterpreting things she’d said. Since we had to see each other every day, I decided to limit communication to only what was necessary (and retaliate with my silent treatment). How could a quiet demeanor be wrong?
‘입다물고 있으면 아무 잘못도 안 하게 될 거야.’ 나는 속으로 말했다. 나는 동료가 한 말을 오해한 후 겉으로는 계속 화를 참고 있었다. 매일 만나야 했기 때문에 대화는 꼭 필요한 정도만 하기로 (그리고 침묵으로 보복하기로) 했다. 그런데 침묵하는 처신이 어떻게 잘못이 될 수 있을까?
Jesus said that sin begins in the heart (MATTHEW 15:18-20). My silence may have fooled people into thinking all was well, but it wasn’t fooling God. He knew I was hiding a heart filled with anger. I was like the Pharisees who honored God with their lips, but their hearts were far from Him (V. 8). Even though my outward appearance didn’t show my true feelings, the bitterness was festering inside me. The joy and closeness I’d always felt with my heavenly Father were gone. Nurturing and hiding sin does that.
예수님은 죄가 마음에서 시작된다고 말씀하셨다(마태복음 15:18- 20). 내 침묵에 사람들이 속아서 모든 것이 잘되고 있다고 생각했을지도 모르지만, 하나님은 속지 않으셨다. 하나님은 내가 분노로 가득 찬 마음을 숨기고 있는 것을 알고 계셨다. 나는 마치 입술로는 하나님을 공경하되 마음은 하나님에게서 멀리 있던 바리새인과 같았다(8절). 비록 내 진실된 감정이 겉으로 드러나지 않았을지는 몰라도 내 안에 쓴 뿌리가 자라며 곪고 있었다. 하나님 아버지와 함께하며 늘 느꼈던 기쁨과 친밀함이 사라졌다. 죄를 키우고 숨긴 결과였다.
By God’s grace, I told my colleague how I was feeling and apologized. She graciously forgave me and, eventually, we became good friends. “Out of the heart come evil thoughts” (V. 19), Jesus says. The state of our heart matters because evil residing there can overflow into our lives. Both our exterior and interior matter. KAREN HUANG
하나님의 은혜에 힘입어 동료에게 내 감정을 말하고 사과했다. 동료는 흔쾌히 나를 용서했고 나중에 우리는 좋은 친구가 되었다. 예수님은 “마음에서 악한 생각들이 나온다”(19절, 새번역)고 말씀하신다. 중요한 것은 우리 마음의 상태이다. 우리 마음 속에 거하는 사악함이 우리 삶 속으로 넘쳐 흐르기 때문이다. 우리의 겉과 속 둘 다 중요하다.
Jesus said that the sin in our heart defiles us. What “evil thoughts” might be defiling your heart? How can you pray regarding this matter?
예수님은 우리 마음의 죄가 우리를 더럽힌다고 말씀하셨습니다. 어떤 “악한 생각들”이 당신의 마음을 더럽힐 수 있을까요? 이 문제를 놓고 어떻게 기도할 수 있을까요?
Loving God, please forgive me for the sins I’ve been nurturing in my heart. I want my heart to be pleasing in Your sight. Please help me to change.//사랑의 하나님, 제 마음속에 키우고 있는 죄를 용서해주소서. 제 마음이 주님 보시기에 기쁨이 되기를 원합니다. 제가 변할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 겉으로 드러나는 행동뿐 아니라 마음 속에 가지고 있는 생각도 거룩하고 흠이 없게 하소서. 남에게 보이지 않는 나의 마음을 하나님께서는 알고 계신다는 것을 항상 생각하고 내 마음까지 하나님께 드리게 하소서.
