OWNER OR STEWARD?(PSALM 50:7-15)
(시 50:7) 내 백성아 들을지어다 내가 말하리라 이스라엘아 내가 네게 증언하리라 나는 하나님 곧 네 하나님이로다//Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I {am} God, {even} thy God.
(시 50:8) 나는 네 제물 때문에 너를 책망하지는 아니하리니 네 번제가 항상 내 앞에 있음이로다//I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings {to have been} continually before me.
(시 50:9) 내가 네 집에서 수소나 네 우리에서 숫염소를 가져가지 아니하리니//I will take no bullock out of thy house, {nor} he goats out of thy folds.
(시 50:10) 이는 삼림의 짐승들과 뭇 산의 가축이 다 내 것이며//For every beast of the forest {is} mine, {and} the cattle upon a thousand hills.
(시 50:11) 산의 모든 새들도 내가 아는 것이며 들의 짐승도 내 것임이로다//I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field {are} mine.
(시 50:12) 내가 가령 주려도 네게 이르지 아니할 것은 세계와 거기에 충만한 것이 내 것임이로다//If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world {is} mine, and the fulness thereof.
(시 50:13) 내가 수소의 고기를 먹으며 염소의 피를 마시겠느냐//Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
(시 50:14) 감사로 하나님께 제사를 드리며 지존하신 이에게 네 서원을 갚으며//Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
(시 50:15) 환난 날에 나를 부르라 내가 너를 건지리니 네가 나를 영화롭게 하리로다//And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

“Am I an owner or a steward?” The CEO of a multibillion-dollar company asked himself that question as he weighed what was best for his family. Concerned about the temptations that can come with vast wealth, he didn’t want to burden his heirs with that challenge. So he gave up ownership of his company and placed 100 percent of the voting stock in a trust. Recognizing that everything he owns belongs to God helped him make the decision to allow his family to earn a living in exchange for work while also using future profits to fund Christian ministry.
“나는 주인일까 청지기일까?” 수십 억 달러 규모의 회사 대표가 가족의 앞날에 대해 고민하면서 스스로에게 던졌던 질문이다. 막대한 부에 수반되는 유혹을 염려한 그는 상속자들에게 그런 유혹의 부담을 주고 싶지 않았다. 그래서 회사 소유권을 포기하고 의결권이 있는 주식 100퍼센트를 신탁에 맡겼다. 그가 소유한 모든 것이 하나님께 속해 있음을 알았기에, 그는 그의 가족이 일해서 생활비를 벌게하고, 또 장차 얻게 될 수익은 기독교 사역을 위한 재정에 사용하도록 하는 결정을 내릴 수 있었다.
In Psalm 50:10, God tells His people, “Every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.” As the Creator of all things, God owes us nothing and needs nothing from us. “I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,” He says (V. 9). He generously provides everything that we have and use as well as the strength and the ability to earn a living. Because He does, as the psalm shows us, He’s worthy of our heartfelt worship.
시편 50편 10절에서 하나님은 그의 백성들에게 “삼림의 짐승들과 뭇 산의 가축이 다 내 것”이라고 말씀하신다. 우리에게 빚진 것이 없으며 우리에게서 아무것도 필요로 하지 않으신 만유의 창조주 하나님은 “나는 네 외양간의 수소나 네 우리의 수염소를 필요로 하지 않는다”고 말씀하신다(9절, 현대인의 성경). 하나님은 우리가 소유하고 사용하는 모든 것뿐 아니라, 삶을 영위할 힘과 능력 또한 아낌없이 주신다. 그렇게 해주시기 때문에, 시편에서 보여주는 것처럼 하나님은 우리의 진심에서 우러나오는 경배를 받으시기에 합당한 분이시다.
God owns everything. But because of His goodness, He even chose to give Himself, entering into a relationship with any who turn to Him. Jesus “did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (MARK 10:45). 하나님은 모든 것을 소유하신 분이다. 그러나 선하신 하나님은 자신을 내어주기로 선택하셨고, 그분께로 돌이키는 모든 사람은 누구나 다 받아들이신다. 예수님이 “온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함”이었다(마가복음 10:45). 은사보다 그것을 주신 주님을 더 귀히 여기고 그 은사로 주님을 섬길 때, 우리는 주님 안에서 영원히 기뻐하는 복을 받는다.

하나님께서 당신에게 주신 감사한 일이 무엇입니까? 그것으로 어떻게 하나님을 섬길 수 있을까요?
You made everything, faithful Creator. Please help me to live my life as a gift from You today.//모든 것을 만드신 신실하신 창조주 하나님. 오늘 하나님께서 주신 하나의 선물로써 제 삶을 살 수 있도록 도와주소서. 지금 나에게 속해 있는 것들이 모두 하나님의 것일진대, 적게 받은 것을 불평하지 않고 있는 것에 감사하며 이미 있는 것들을 주님의 일을 위해 사용하는 믿음을 주소서. 은혜로 받는 믿음을 위해 기도하게 하소서.
