STRANGE PLACES(ESTHER 2:3-4, 12-17)
(에 2:3) 전국 각 지방에 관리를 명령하여 아리따운 처녀를 다 도성 수산으로 모아 후궁으로 들여 궁녀를 주관하는 내시 헤개의 손에 맡겨 그 몸을 정결하게 하는 물품을 주게 하시고//And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king's chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given {them}:
(에 2:4) 왕의 눈에 아름다운 처녀를 와스디 대신 왕후로 삼으소서 하니 왕이 그 말을 좋게 여겨 그대로 행하니라//And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.
(에 2:12) 처녀마다 차례대로 아하수에로 왕에게 나아가기 전에 여자에 대하여 정한 규례대로 열두 달 동안을 행하되 여섯 달은 몰약 기름을 쓰고 여섯 달은 향품과 여자에게 쓰는 다른 물품을 써서 몸을 정결하게 하는 기한을 마치며//Now when every maid's turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, ({for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, {to wit}, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with {other} things for the purifying of the women};)
(에 2:13) 처녀가 왕에게 나아갈 때에는 그가 구하는 것을 다 주어 후궁에서 왕궁으로 가지고 가게 하고//Then thus came {every} maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king's house.
(에 2:14) 저녁이면 갔다가 아침에는 둘째 후궁으로 돌아와서 비빈을 주관하는 내시 사아스가스의 수하에 속하고 왕이 그를 기뻐하여 그의 이름을 부르지 아니하면 다시 왕에게 나아가지 못하더라//In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.
(에 2:15) 모르드개의 삼촌 아비하일의 딸 곧 모르드개가 자기의 딸 같이 양육하는 에스더가 차례대로 왕에게 나아갈 때에 궁녀를 주관하는 내시 헤개가 정한 것 외에는 다른 것을 구하지 아니하였으나 모든 보는 자에게 사랑을 받더라//Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
(에 2:16) 아하수에로 왕의 제칠년 시월 곧 데벳월에 에스더가 왕궁에 인도되어 들어가서 왕 앞에 나가니//So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which {is} the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
(에 2:17) 왕이 모든 여자보다 에스더를 더 사랑하므로 그가 모든 처녀보다 왕 앞에 더 은총을 얻은지라 왕이 그의 머리에 관을 씌우고 와스디를 대신하여 왕후로 삼은 후에//And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.
(요절: 에스더 4:14) 네가 왕후의 자리를 얻은 것이 이 때를 위함이 아닌지 누가 알겠느냐//Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? [ ESTHER 4:14 ]
God, why is this happening? Is this really your plan for us? As a husband and a dad of young children, those questions and more swirled in my mind as I wrestled with a serious cancer diagnosis. What’s more, our family had just served with a missions team that had seen many children receive Jesus as their Savior. God had been bringing forth evident fruit. There was so much joy. And now this?
‘하나님, 왜 이런 일이 일어나고 있지요? 이것이 진정 우리를 위한 하나님의 계획인가요?’ 남편이자 어린 자녀를 둔 아빠로서, 암이 심각하다는 진단을 받고 힘들어 하면서 이런 질문들이 계속해서 내 마음 속에 소용돌이쳤다. 게다가 우리 가족은 방금 선교팀과 함께 많은 어린이들이 예수님을 구주로 영접하는 것을 보고 돌아온 길이었다. 하나님은 분명한 열매를 맺도록 하셨고, 그 기쁨이 너무나 컸다. 그런데 이제 암이라니?
Esther likely poured out questions and prayers to God after she was plucked from a loving home and thrust into a strange new world (ESTHER 2:8). Her cousin Mordecai had raised her as his own daughter after she’d been orphaned (V. 7). But then she was placed in a king’s harem and eventually elevated to serve as his queen (V. 17). Mordecai was understandably concerned about what “was happening to” Esther (V. 11). But in time, the two realized that God had called her to be in a place of great power “for such a time as this” (4:14) - a place that allowed for her people to be saved from destruction (CHS. 7-8).
아마 에스더도 사랑하는 집에서 뽑혀 낯선 세계로 내몰린 후 하나님께 질문과 기도를 쏟아 부었을 것이다(에스더 2:8). 사촌 모르드개가 고아가 된 에스더를 친딸처럼 키웠다(7절). 그러나 그 후 에스더는 왕의 후궁들 처소에 들어가게 되었으며, 마침내는 왕후의 자리까지 올라가게 되었다 (17절). 모르드개는 당연히 에스더가 “어떻게 될지”에 대해 염려했다(11 절). 그러나 이윽고 두 사람은 하나님이 에스더를 “이 때를 위하여”(4:14) 큰 권능의 장소, 곧 이스라엘 백성을 멸망에서 구원할 수 있는 장소로 부르셨다는 것을 깨달았다(7-8장).
It’s evident that God providentially placed Esther in a strange place as part of His perfect plan. He did the same with me. As I endured a lengthy battle with cancer, I was privileged to share my faith with many, many patients and caregivers. What strange place has He led you to? Trust Him. He’s good, and so are His plans (ROMANS 11:33-36). TOM FELTEN
하나님께서 그분의 완벽한 계획의 일부로 에스더를 낯선 곳에 두셨다는 것은 자명하다. 하나님은 내게도 똑같이 하셨다. 나는 암의 기나긴 투병을 견뎌 나가면서 수많은 환자와 간병인들에게 믿음을 나눌 수 있는 특권을 누렸다. 주님이 당신을 어떤 낯선 곳으로 인도하셨는가? 주님을 믿으라. 주님은 선하시며 주님의 계획도 그렇다(로마서 11:33-36).
When has God led you to a strange place? Why can you trust in His perfect plans?
하나님께서 언제 당신을 낯선 곳으로 인도하셨습니까? 하나님의 완벽한 계획을 신뢰할 수 있는 이유는 무엇입니까?
Dear God, help me to trust You even when I don’t understand what You’re doing.//사랑하는 하나님, 하나님이 하시는 일을 이해할 수 없을 때라도 하나님을 신뢰할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 심지어 나의 잘못된 선택을 통해서도 주님은 그것을 주님의 선으로 바꾸어 놓으실 것을 믿습니다. 나의 삶 가운데서 그것이 이루어지는 것을 보게 하소서. 주의 선하심을 맛보게 하소서.
