LEARNING FROM MISTAKES(1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-11)
(고전 10:1) 형제들아 나는 너희가 알지 못하기를 원하지 아니하노니 우리 조상들이 다 구름 아래에 있고 바다 가운데로 지나며//Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
(고전 10:2) 모세에게 속하여 다 구름과 바다에서 세례를 받고//And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
(고전 10:3) 다 같은 신령한 음식을 먹으며//And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
(고전 10:4) 다 같은 신령한 음료를 마셨으니 이는 그들을 따르는 신령한 반석으로부터 마셨으매 그 반석은 곧 그리스도시라//And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
(고전 10:5) 그러나 그들의 다수를 하나님이 기뻐하지 아니하셨으므로 그들이 광야에서 멸망을 받았느니라//But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
(고전 10:6) 이러한 일은 우리의 본보기가 되어 우리로 하여금 그들이 악을 즐겨 한 것 같이 즐겨 하는 자가 되지 않게 하려 함이니//Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
(고전 10:7) 그들 가운데 어떤 사람들과 같이 너희는 우상 숭배하는 자가 되지 말라 기록된 바 백성이 앉아서 먹고 마시며 일어나서 뛰논다 함과 같으니라//Neither be ye idolaters, as {were} some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
(고전 10:8) 그들 중의 어떤 사람들이 음행하다가 하루에 이만 삼천 명이 죽었나니 우리는 그들과 같이 음행하지 말자//Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
(고전 10:9) 그들 가운데 어떤 사람들이 주를 시험하다가 뱀에게 멸망하였나니 우리는 그들과 같이 시험하지 말자//Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
(고전 10:10) 그들 가운데 어떤 사람들이 원망하다가 멸망시키는 자에게 멸망하였나니 너희는 그들과 같이 원망하지 말라//Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
(고전 10:11) 그들에게 일어난 이런 일은 본보기가 되고 또한 말세를 만난 우리를 깨우치기 위하여 기록되었느니라//Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

To help avoid future financial mistakes, such as those in 1929 and 2008 that brought down the world’s economy, the Library of Mistakes was founded in Edinburgh, Scotland. It features a collection of more than two thousand books that can help educate the next generation of economists. And it serves as a perfect example of how, according to the library’s curators, “smart people keep doing stupid things.” The curators believe that the only way to build a strong economy is to learn from prior mistakes.
세계 경제를 무너뜨린 1929년과 2008년의 재정적 실수와 같은 일이 미래에 일어나는 것을 방지하기 위해 스코틀랜드의 에딘버러에 ‘실수 도서관’이 설립되었다. 이곳에는 차세대 경제학자들의 교육을 돕기 위해 2천 권 이상의 책이 비치되어 있다. 이 도서관은 사서들의 말처럼 어떻게 “똑똑한 사람들이 어리석은 일들을 계속 반복하는지” 완벽한 사례를 보여주는 역할을 한다. 사서들은 튼튼한 경제를 이루는 유일한 길은 과거의 실수로부터 배우는 것이라고 믿고 있다.
Paul reminded the Corinthians that one way to avoid yielding to temptation and to have a strong spiritual life is to learn from the mistakes of God’s people in the past. So to make sure they wouldn’t become overconfident with their spiritual privilege, the apostle used ancient Israel’s failures as an example from which to gain wisdom. The Israelites engaged in idolatry, chose to “commit sexual immorality,” grumbled about the plans and purposes of God, and rebelled against His leaders. Due to their sin, they experienced His discipline (1 CORINTHIANS 10:7-10). Paul presented these historical “examples” from Scripture to help believers in Jesus avoid repeating Israel’s mistakes (V. 11).
바울은 유혹에 빠지지 않고 영적으로 강건한 삶을 살 수 있는 한 가지 방법은 과거에 하나님의 백성들이 저질렀던 실수를 통해 배우는 것이라고 고린도 성도들에게 상기시켜 주었다. 사도는 그들이 영적으로 누리는 특권으로 교만해지지 않도록 지혜를 얻을 수 있는 사례로 고대 이스라엘의 실패를 한 예로 들었다. 이스라엘 백성들은 우상을 숭배하고 “음행하였으며” 하나님의 계획과 목적에 대해 불평하고 하나님이 세우신 지도자들에게 반항했다. 그런 죄 때문에 그들은 하나님의 징계를 받았다(고린도전서 10:7-10). 바울은 예수님을 믿는 이들이 이스라엘의 실수를 반복하지 않도록 돕기 위해 성경에 있는 이런 역사적인 “사례들”을 제시했다(11절).

Dear God, please help me learn from failures so that I might be more obedient to You.//사랑하는 하나님, 실수를 통해 배워서 하나님께 더 순종할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 실수를 통해 몸에 새겨진 교훈들이 오늘의 나를 가르치게 하소서. 반복되는 실수는 고의가 될 수 있음을 자각하게 하시고 악에서 멀어지게 하소서. 오직 위의 것을 생각하고 사모하게 하소서.
