WALLS TORN DOWN, UNITY FOUND(EPHESIANS 2:11-22)
(엡 2:11) 그러므로 생각하라 너희는 그 때에 육체로는 이방인이요 손으로 육체에 행한 할례를 받은 무리라 칭하는 자들로부터 할례를 받지 않은 무리라 칭함을 받는 자들이라//Wherefore remember, that ye {being} in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
(엡 2:12) 그 때에 너희는 그리스도 밖에 있었고 이스라엘 나라 밖의 사람이라 약속의 언약들에 대하여는 외인이요 세상에서 소망이 없고 하나님도 없는 자이더니//That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
(엡 2:13) 이제는 전에 멀리 있던 너희가 그리스도 예수 안에서 그리스도의 피로 가까워졌느니라//But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
(엡 2:14) 그는 우리의 화평이신지라 둘로 하나를 만드사 원수 된 것 곧 중간에 막힌 담을 자기 육체로 허시고//For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition {between us};
(엡 2:15) 법조문으로 된 계명의 율법을 폐하셨으니 이는 이 둘로 자기 안에서 한 새 사람을 지어 화평하게 하시고//Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, {even} the law of commandments {contained} in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, {so} making peace;
(엡 2:16) 또 십자가로 이 둘을 한 몸으로 하나님과 화목하게 하려 하심이라 원수 된 것을 십자가로 소멸하시고//And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
(엡 2:17) 또 오셔서 먼 데 있는 너희에게 평안을 전하시고 가까운 데 있는 자들에게 평안을 전하셨으니//And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
(엡 2:18) 이는 그로 말미암아 우리 둘이 한 성령 안에서 아버지께 나아감을 얻게 하려 하심이라//For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
(엡 2:19) 그러므로 이제부터 너희는 외인도 아니요 나그네도 아니요 오직 성도들과 동일한 시민이요 하나님의 권속이라//Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
(엡 2:20) 너희는 사도들과 선지자들의 터 위에 세우심을 입은 자라 그리스도 예수께서 친히 모퉁잇돌이 되셨느니라//And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner {stone};
(엡 2:21) 그의 안에서 건물마다 서로 연결하여 주 안에서 성전이 되어 가고//In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
(엡 2:22) 너희도 성령 안에서 하나님이 거하실 처소가 되기 위하여 그리스도 예수 안에서 함께 지어져 가느니라//In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Since 1961, families and friends had been separated by the Berlin Wall. Erected that year by the East German government, the barrier kept its citizens from fleeing to West Germany. In fact, from 1949 to the day the structure was built, it’s estimated that more than 2.5 million East Germans had bolted to the West. US President Ronald Reagan stood at the wall in 1987 and famously said, “Tear down this wall.” His words reflected a groundswell of change that culminated with the wall being torn down in 1989-leading to Germany’s joyous reunification.
베를린 장벽 때문에 1961년 이후 많은 가족과 친구들이 떨어져 살아야 했다. 그 해 동독 정부가 장벽을 세워 동독 주민들이 서독으로 탈출하는 것을 막았다. 실제로 1949년부터 장벽이 세워진 날까지 약 250만 명의 동독 주민들이 서독으로 넘어간 것으로 추산된다. 로널드 레이건 미 대통령은 1987년 그 장벽 앞에 서서 “이 벽을 허뭅시다.”라고 한 말로 유명하다. 그의 말에 담긴 변화에의 열망은 더욱 고조되어 마침내 1989년 장벽이 무너지고 독일은 재통일의 기쁨을 맞았다.
In Ephesians 2:14, Paul wrote of a “wall of hostility” torn down by Jesus. The wall had existed between Jews (God’s chosen people) and gentiles (all other people). And it was symbolized by the dividing wall (the soreg) in the ancient temple erected by Herod the Great in Jerusalem. It kept gentiles from entering beyond the outer courts of the temple, though they could see the inner courts. But Jesus brought “peace” and reconciliation between the Jews and gentiles and between God and all people. He did so by “[breaking] down the wall . . . that separated us” by “his death on the cross” (VV. 14, 16 NLT). The “Good News of peace” made it possible for all to be united by faith in Christ (VV. 17-18 NLT).
바울은 예수님께서 허무신 “원수된 것 곧 중간에 막힌 담”에 대해 기록했다(에베소서 2:14). 이 담은 유대인(하나님의 선택된 백성들)과 이방인 (다른 모든 사람들) 사이에 존재한 것이었다. 헤롯 대왕이 예루살렘에 건축한 고대 성전에 있던 분리의 담이 이를 상징했다. 이 담은 이방인들이 안 뜰을 볼 수는 있어도 성전 바깥 뜰 너머로는 들어오지 못하게 막았다. 그러나 예수님은 유대인과 이방인 사이에, 그리고 하나님과 모든 사람들 사이에 “화평”과 화해를 가져오셨다. 예수님이 “십자가에서 죽으심으로 막힌 담을 허심으로” 그렇게 하신 것이다(14, 16절). “평안의 좋은 소식”을 통해 모든 사람이 그리스도 안에서 믿음으로 하나가 될 수 있었다(17-18절).
Today, many things can divide us. As God provides what we need, let’s strive to live out the peace and unity found in Jesus (VV. 19-22). TOM FELTEN
오늘날 많은 것들이 우리를 갈라놓을 수 있다. 우리의 필요를 공급해 주시는 하나님을 힘입어 예수님 안에 있는 화평과 하나됨을 힘써 이루어 내자(19-22절).

God of peace, please help me tear down walls that deny Your truth and love.//화평의 하나님, 하나님의 진리와 사랑을 부인하는 담들을 허물 수 있도록 도와주소서. 나와 누군가의 사이에 관계의 장벽이 있다면 그것을 알게 하시고 내가 먼저 찾아가 그것을 허무는 용기를 갖게 하소서. 지금 장벽이 없더라도 언제든 장벽이 생긴다면 즉시로 그것을 허무는 역할을 내가 하게 하소서.
