FORGIVENESS AND FORGETTING(ISAIAH 43:18-25)
(사 43:18) 너희는 이전 일을 기억하지 말며 옛날 일을 생각하지 말라//Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
(사 43:19) 보라 내가 새 일을 행하리니 이제 나타낼 것이라 너희가 그것을 알지 못하겠느냐 반드시 내가 광야에 길을 사막에 강을 내리니//Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, {and} rivers in the desert.
(사 43:20) 장차 들짐승 곧 승냥이와 타조도 나를 존경할 것은 내가 광야에 물을, 사막에 강들을 내어 내 백성, 내가 택한 자에게 마시게 할 것임이라//The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, {and} rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.
(사 43:21) 이 백성은 내가 나를 위하여 지었나니 나를 찬송하게 하려 함이니라//This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
(사 43:22) 그러나 야곱아 너는 나를 부르지 아니하였고 이스라엘아 너는 나를 괴롭게 여겼으며//But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.
(사 43:23) 네 번제의 양을 내게로 가져오지 아니하였고 네 제물로 나를 공경하지 아니하였느니라 나는 제물로 말미암아 너를 수고롭게 하지 아니하였고 유향으로 말미암아 너를 괴롭게 하지 아니하였거늘//Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.
(사 43:24) 너는 나를 위하여 돈으로 향품을 사지 아니하며 희생의 기름으로 나를 흡족하게 하지 아니하고 네 죄짐으로 나를 수고롭게 하며 네 죄악으로 나를 괴롭게 하였느니라//Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.
(사 43:25) 나 곧 나는 나를 위하여 네 허물을 도말하는 자니 네 죄를 기억하지 아니하리라//I, {even} I, {am} he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
(요절: 이사야 43:25) 나는… 네 허물을 도말하는 자니 네 죄를 기억하지 아니하리라//I am he who blots out your transgressions . . . and remembers your sins no more. [ISAIAH 43:25 ]
Jill Price was born with the condition of hyperthymesia: the ability to remember in extraordinary detail everything that ever happened to her. She can replay in her mind the exact occurrence of any event she’s experienced in her lifetime.
질 프라이스는 자기가 겪어온 모든 일을 놀랍도록 자세히 기억할 수 있는 과잉기억 증후군을 가지고 태어났다. 질은 평생 겪은 일들을 마음 속에 정확히 되돌려 볼 수 있다.
The TV show Unforgettable was premised on a female police officer with hyperthymesia-to her a great advantage in trivia games and in solving crimes. For Jill Price, however, the condition isn’t so much fun. She can’t forget the moments of life when she was criticized, experienced loss, or did something she deeply regretted. She replays those scenes in her head over and over again.
‘언포게터블’이라는 텔레비전 쇼에는 과잉기억 증후군을 가진 한 여성 경찰관이 나오는데, 상식 퀴즈게임이나 범죄 해결에 이 증후군이 큰 장점으로 작용했다. 그러나 질 프라이스에게 이 증후군은 그리 유쾌하지 않았다. 질은 살면서 비판을 받거나, 사랑하는 사람이 죽거나, 크게 후회할 일을 했던 순간들을 잊지 못하고, 그 장면들을 계속해서 머리 속에 떠올린다.
Our God is omniscient (perhaps a kind of divine hyperthymesia): the Bible tells us that His understanding has no limit. And yet we discover in Isaiah a most reassuring thing: “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions . . . and remembers your sins no more” (43:25). The book of Hebrews reinforces this: “We have been made holy through . . . Jesus Christ . . . [and our] sins and lawless acts [God] will remember no more” (HEBREWS 10:10, 17).
하나님은 모든 것을 아신다(어쩌면 일종의 신성한 과잉기억 증후군). 성경은 우리에게 하나님의 지각에는 한계가 없다고 말한다. 그럼에도 우리는 이사야서에서 크게 안심이 되는 구절을 본다. “나 곧 나는… 네 허물을 도말하는 자니 네 죄를 기억하지 아니하리라”(43:25). 히브리서는 이것을 다시 강조한다. “예수 그리스도로… 말미암아 우리가 거룩함을 얻었노라… (우리의) 죄와 (우리의) 불법을 (하나님께서) 다시 기억하지 아니하리라” (히브리서 10:10, 17).
As we confess our sins to God, we can stop playing them over and over in our minds. We need to let them go, just as He does: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past” (ISAIAH 43:18). In His great love, God chooses to not remember our sins against us. Let’s remember that. KENNETH PETERSEN
우리의 죄를 하나님께 고백하면 더 이상 마음속에 붙들고 있지 않아도 된다. 하나님께서 잊으시니 우리도 잊어야 한다. “너희는 이전 일을 기억하지 말며 옛날 일을 생각하지 말라”(이사야 43:18). 하나님은 그 크신 사랑으로 우리의 죄를 기억하지 않기로 하셨다. ‘그 사실’을 기억하자.

Dear God, thank You for forgiving and forgetting my sins.//사랑하는 하나님, 저의 죄를 용서하시고 기억하지 않으시니 감사합니다. 하나님이 기억하지 않으시겠다고 하신 것을 내가 기억하지 않게 하소서. 죄책감에 빠져 새로운 은혜를 잊지 않게 하옵소서. 과거의 잘못을 바라보기보다는 새로운 소명을 향해 나아가게 하소서. 그러나 회개하지 않은 죄는 생각나게 하소서. 주님을 통하여 용서받고 잊혀지게 하소서.
