ONE DOOR FOR ALL(ROMANS 10:8–13)
(롬 10:8) 그러면 무엇을 말하느냐 말씀이 네게 가까워 네 입에 있으며 네 마음에 있다 하였으니 곧 우리가 전파하는 믿음의 말씀이라//But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, {even} in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
(롬 10:9) 네가 만일 네 입으로 예수를 주로 시인하며 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 것을 네 마음에 믿으면 구원을 받으리라//That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(롬 10:10) 사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 시인하여 구원에 이르느니라//For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
(롬 10:11) 성경에 이르되 누구든지 그를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라 하니//For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
(롬 10:12) 유대인이나 헬라인이나 차별이 없음이라 한 분이신 주께서 모든 사람의 주가 되사 그를 부르는 모든 사람에게 부요하시도다//For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
(롬 10:13) 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자는 구원을 받으리라//For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The protocols at the restaurant in my childhood neighborhood were consistent with social and racial dynamics in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The kitchen helpers — Mary, the cook, and dishwashers like me — were Black; however, the in-restaurant patrons were White. Black customers could order food, but they had to pick it up at the back door. Such policies reinforced the unequal treatment of Blacks in that era. Though we’ve come a long way since then, we still have room for growth in how we relate to each other as people made in the image of God.
나의 어린 시절 동네 음식점의 규범은 1950년대 후반과 1960년대 초반의 사회와 인종에 관한 관행을 그대로 따랐다. 조리사였던 메리와 접시를 닦는 나 같은 주방 도우미들은 흑인이었다. 그러나 식당 내의 고객들은 모두 백인이었다. 흑인 고객도 음식을 주문할 수는 있었지만 뒷문에서 음식을 받아 가야 했다. 그런 정책들은 그 시대의 흑인들을 향한 불평등한 대우를 더욱 강화시켰다. 그 이후로 많은 진전이 있었지만, 하나님의 형상으로 만들어진 인간인 우리가 서로를 대하는 방식에는 여전히 개선해야 할 부분들이 있다.
Passages of Scripture like Romans 10:8–13 help us to see that all are welcome in the family of God; there’s no back door. All enter the same way - through belief in Jesus’ death for cleansing and forgiveness. The Bible word for this transformative experience is saved (VV. 9, 13). Your social situation or racial status or that of others doesn’t factor into the equation. “As Scripture says, ‘Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile — the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him” (VV. 11–12). Father, my heart rejoices that You so loved the world that You sent Jesus.//하나님 아버지, 세상을 이처럼 사랑하셔서 예수님을 보내주신 것을 진심으로 기뻐합니다. 삶의 수준이 전혀 의롭지 않은 저에게도 찾아와 주셔서 깊은 수렁에서 건져주시고 감싸주시고 바른 길로 인도하여 주심을 감사합니다. 이제는 구원받은 자답게 살아가게 하소서. 사람들이 나의 얼굴에서 그리스도의 얼굴을 보게 하소서.
