(삼상 30:1) 다윗과 그의 사람들이 사흘 만에 시글락에 이른 때에 아말렉 사람들이 이미 네겝과 시글락을 침노하였는데 그들이 시글락을 쳐서 불사르고//And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
(삼상 30:2) 거기에 있는 젊거나 늙은 여인들은 한 사람도 죽이지 아니하고 다 사로잡아 끌고 자기 길을 갔더라//And had taken the women captives, that {were} therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried {them} away, and went on their way.
(삼상 30:3) 다윗과 그의 사람들이 성읍에 이르러 본즉 성읍이 불탔고 자기들의 아내와 자녀들이 사로잡혔는지라//So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, {it was} burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
(삼상 30:4) 다윗과 그와 함께 한 백성이 울 기력이 없도록 소리를 높여 울었더라//Then David and the people that {were} with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
(삼상 30:5) (다윗의 두 아내 이스르엘 여인 아히노암과 갈멜 사람 나발의 아내였던 아비가일도 사로잡혔더라)//And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
(삼상 30:6) 백성들이 자녀들 때문에 마음이 슬퍼서 다윗을 돌로 치자 하니 다윗이 크게 다급하였으나 그의 하나님 여호와를 힘입고 용기를 얻었더라//And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

Everything looked bleak to David and his men when they arrived at Ziklag(1 Sam. 30:1-6). The Amalekites had attacked the city and taken their wives and children captive. The men were so discouraged that they wept until they had no more energy. And David, their leader, was "greatly distressed" because the people were contemplating stoning him(v.6).
다윗과 그의 사람들이 시글락에 도착했을 때에 모든 것이 황량하게 보였다(사무엘상 30:1-6). 아말렉이 그 도시를 침략해서 그들의 아내들과 아이들을 포로로 잡아갔다. 사람들은 매우 낙담하여 기력이 다할 때까지 울었다. 그리고 그들의 지도자인 다윗은 백성들이 마음이 슬퍼서 그를 돌로 치려 했기 때문에 "매우 괴로웠다."(6절).
In the end, David's army rescued their families and defeated the Amalekites. But the story takes a great turn even before that when "David strengthened himself in the Lord his God"(v.6). Other translations use the words encouraged or refreshed.
결국에는 다윗의 군대가 그 가족들을 구출하고 아말렉을 쳐부수었다. 그러나 이야기는 이보다 더 전에 큰 전환을 맞이한다. 즉, "다윗은 그의 하나님 여호와를 힘입고 용기를 얻었다"(6절). 다른 번역에서는 힘을 얻었다 혹은 원기를 얻었다라는 단어를 사용했다(6절).
The text doesn't say exactly how David did this. But it makes me wonder, In what ways can we strengthen, encourage, or refresh ourselves in the Lord when we're feeling discouraged?
문맥에서는 다윗에 어떻게 해서 그렇게 되었는지에 대해서는 정확하게 말하지 않는다. 그러나 내가 궁금한 것은, 우리가 용기를 잃었을 때 어떤 방식으로 주님 안에서 힘과 용기와 원기를 얻을 수 있는가 하는 것이다.
First, we can remember what God has done. We can list the ways He has cared for us in the past, and how He has provided for us or answered a prayer request.
첫째, 우리는 하나님이 하신 일을 기억할 수 있다. 과거에 하나님이 우리를 돌보아 주셨던 방식과, 그분이 우리에게 어떻게 제공해 주셨는지와, 기도 요청에 대해 어떻게 응답해 주셨는지를 열거할 수 있다.
Second, we can remember what God has promised. "Be strong and of good courage; … for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go"(Josh. 1:9).
둘째, 하나님이 약속하신 것을 기억할 수 있다. "강하고 담대하라 … 네가 어디로 가든지 네 하나님 여호와가 너와 함께 하느니라"(여호수아 1:9).
