본문 : 에베소서 4:11-16(Ephesians 4:11-16)
(엡 4:11) 그가 혹은 사도로, 혹은 선지자로, 혹은 복음 전하는 자로, 혹은 목사와 교사로 주셨으니//And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
(엡 4:12) 이는 성도를 온전케 하며 봉사의 일을 하게 하며 그리스도의 몸을 세우려 하심이라//For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
(엡 4:13) 우리가 다 하나님의 아들을 믿는 것과 아는 일에 하나가 되어 온전한 사람을 이루어 그리스도의 장성한 분량이 충만한 데까지 이르리니//Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
(엡 4:14) 이는 우리가 이제부터 어린 아이가 되지 아니하여 사람의 궤술과 간사한 유혹에 빠져 모든 교훈의 풍조에 밀려 요동치 않게 하려 함이라//That we {henceforth} be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, {and} cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
(엡 4:15) 오직 사랑 안에서 참된 것을 하여 범사에 그에게까지 자랄지라 그는 머리니 곧 그리스도라//But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, {even} Christ:
(엡 4:16) 그에게서 온 몸이 각 마디를 통하여 도움을 입음으로 연락하고 상합하여 각 지체의 분량대로 역사하여 그 몸을 자라게 하며 사랑 안에서 스스로 세우느니라//From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
(요절 : 누가복음 2:52) 예수는 그 지혜와 그 키가 자라가며 하나님과 사람에게 더 사랑스러워 가시더라//And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
"Can you measure me today?" Caleb, our paperboy asked.
"오늘 제 키 좀 재 주시겠습니까?" 우리 집에 신문을 배달하는 Caleb이 물었다.
It was not the first time he had made that request. A few years ago I had mentioned to him how tall he was getting. Since then, we've often measured his height on the siding of our house. After all this time, he still wants me to measure him.
그가 그런 요청을 하는 것이 이때가 처음이 아니었다. 몇 년 전에도 그가 얼마까지 자랐는지 얘기해 주었던 적이 있다. 그때 이후로, 우리는 우리집 바깥벽에서 그의 키를 종종 재곤했다. 이번에도 역시 그는 여전히 내가 그의 키를 재 주기 원한다.
Measurement can be indicators of growth. And it's good idea to measure our spiritual growth. For instance: Do I spend time reading God's Word and talking with Him each day? Do I look forward to fellowshipping with the Lord? What "fruit of the Spirit" is apparent in my life? Do I talk about Jesus with people who don't know Him? How am I using my spiritual gift or gifts? Do I have a generous and giving spirit? How much better do I know God today than I did a year ago? These questions are good indicators of spiritual growth.
측정은 성장의 척도가 될 수 있다. 그리고 우리의 영적 성장을 측정하는 것은 좋은 생각이다. 예를 들어: 나는 매일 하나님의 말씀을 읽고 그분과 대화하는가? 주님과의 교제를 기대하는가? 내 생에 있어서 어떠한 "성령의 열매"가 두드러지는가? 예수님을 모르는 사람들과 예수님에 대해 이야기하는가? 나의 영적 은사 혹은 은사들을 어떻게 사용하고 있는가? 나는 관대하고 주는 영을 가지고 있는가? 나는 과거에 알았던 것보다 얼마나 더 잘 하나님을 알고 있는가? 이 질문들은 영적 성장의 좋은 척도들이다.
A child seems to grow up all of a sudden, but it's actually a continual process. Just as Jesus grew in both wisdom and stature, we as believers are to continue to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"(2 Peter 3:18). We are no longer to be children, but to "grow up in all things into Him who is the head - Christ"(Eph. 4:14-15). Have you measured yourself lately? - Cindy Hess Kasper -

And heeds the messages he's heard//그가 들은 메시지를 유의하는 하나님의 자녀는
Will grow in grace from day to day//날마다 은혜 가운데 자랄 것이며
And share with others on life's way//인생 길에서 다른 사람들과 그 은혜를 나눌 것이다.
